--I think one of the world's best songs is Roger Miller's "Dang Me", which includes this bit of genius:
They say roses are red, violets are purple
Sugar is sweet and so is maple surple
I'm thinking drunk recording session.
--Another of the world's best songs can be found at www.mundstuhl.de. I am totally obsessed with this song after seeing the video 50 million times in Germany. It's called "Germans" and it's an ode to Germany set to Bob Marley's "Jammin'".
We're German
(German)
At football we're better than you
We're German
(German)
Hope you like Germans too
It's cheesy and awful and wonderful. I need to find a full version of it somewhere, just thinking of it made me giggle all through the trip.
--I was just thinking that in the first 6 months of our marriage, we've spent a week in Bermuda on our honeymoon, a glorious long weekend in London, and two weeks at the World Cup. This is pretty much unduplicatable (if that is indeed a word). Right now we don't own anything - no car, no house and we were (temporarily) being rather irresponsible about saving. But now, I'm going to be getting much stricter about saving and budgeting a little more wisely than we have been. Just because we can afford to do something doesn't mean it's a good idea! Especially since in the not too distant future we'd like to have a little one and that will mean that I won't work for at least a few years. In my ideal world I wouldn't work for many years but I don't know how financially feasible that is. We'll also be looking to buy a car eventually (I told Mark I'm not taking public transportation at 9 months pregnant if at all humanly possible) and saving for a house. So, while travel is still important to both of us, we just need to be more mindful. That was probably not interesting to anyone, I'm just thinking things through. :p
--I will have World Cup pics in a while, but Mark is still in Germany with the camera, so it won't be until he gets home. I will probably be no pictures of me because after looking at some of the ones my friends took I realized I look like a hideous, monstrous she-beast who doesn't deserve to live. Why yes, I am having my period, why do you ask?
--I will have World Cup stories, too, but I'm still thinking of which ones to tell. All I can say is that despite the US results and the shite refereeing it was a wonderful, wonderful trip. Ich leibe Deutschland!
--On a totally unrelated note, "crampy" should be a mood setting on livejournal. Ugh.
