Christmas Eve. Always an exciting and busy day. As I sit at the kitchen table, watching the falling snow, the birds flyiing around looking for someplace warm to lite, listen to the flowing waterfall that is the kittie's drinking fountain and the now and then grunt from Duncan in the living room as he plays something on-line, I feel so grateful for all that is my world.
Julie Kieran Duncan John and I piled into the car yesterday afternoon & drove to Mt. View to find the perfect Christmas tree. I had doubts, but they were dashed by John and Julie exclaiming over this tree and that tree. They settled on an 8' balsalm, covered with snow. Julie held it, John cut it, the kids helped hoist it onto the top of the car, we all tied it down & home it came.
The tree stayed outside in our 'tunnel' for a few hours, then John cleaned it a bit, trimmed two deadish branches off the bottom & brought it inside. He and Julie got it secured in the tree stand, then Julie put on the lights. We let her do her thing because she is good at it & the result is so pretty!
We have never had such a tall tree before, but this house has very high ceilings & the tree is perfect. It has no empty places where there aren't branches, it's full and even and tall.
Afterwards, we all sat by the fire & watched a couple episodes of West Wing, which Julie brought along because the boys are seeing them for the first time & it was one of Jule's favorite shows back when. We will decorate the tree later today.
Now Julie & John are in Malone together, doing gods know what with the credit cards. They will be home soon, John gets hungry.
I have most of the presents wrapped; just a couple more to do. And I must take more bird seed out to the feeder & mash down the snow around it for the deer.
Yesterday I spent about an hour or so watching & encouraging Kieran and Duncan as they sledded down our roof. They were trying to keep the sled from going under a big spruce at the bottom of the hill, but couldn't. Every time they flew down into the branches of the tree. Kieran came inside with spruce bits stuck to his hat. They were both covered in snow from rolling off the sled to keep from being grabbed by the tree. I got to use my snow shoes to reach where they were playing.
