Torchwood: Lost Souls

One of "those" days at work (yes, again) when I didn't get home until gone 8.30pm. So I downloaded the podcast of the Torchwood special episode on Radio 4 and settled down to listen for a bit of relaxation.

Yes, the story is a bit cliched and Jack has to be exposition bunny (because this is on BBC Radio 4 and there are likely to be people listening to this Afternoon Play who aren't regular Torchwoodians), but I enjoyed it. There was some lovely, oh dear I'm getting all choked up, continuity referencing Tosh and Owen's deaths and their funerals, and Jack's guilt over their deaths, and the alien was well-drawn for radio. If that makes sense. And there were some funny lines. One that made me laugh out loud (which, after the day I've had, was alone worth the price of admission) was the female scientist's response to Jack mentioning the anti-proton beam facility:

"If I can flip the polarity of the magnets and replace one of the proton beams with anti-protons..."

Torchwood's version of "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow!" Only Torchwood do it with protons. Which would make rather a good bumper sticker...

A fun play. A few laugh-out-loud moments. Ianto in peril. Glowing angel figures. Tosh and Owen remembered. All-in-all, pretty good. As they say, the pictures are better on the radio (well, when you can imagine Jack and the others scampering round the LHC, that is).

Talking of the LHC, I'm still here. Though maybe it's the alternate universe version of me. How do I tell?!
