Well, that was a really great day! The intention had been to meet up with a friend, have lunch, then take in the matinee of Avenue Q. After threatening wet weather early on, the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and instead of sitting in a restaurant for lunch, we decided to grab sarnies and watch the Pride Parade. Fantastic! Some really impressive costumes and floats and loud (ear-shatteringly loud on occasion) music.
We took in part of the concert in Trafalgar Square (Sandi Thom), and a speech by Sir Ian McKellen, then off we went to the Noel Coward Theatre for Avenue Q. Brilliant, silly, puppet-porn! But also sweet and charming and beautifully acted and sung (including Daniel Boys, formerly of Any Dream Will Do fame).
After that, we eschewed the possibility of stage-door-hogging to hotfoot it back to Trafalgar Square in the hope that we could catch the final episode of Doctor Who, which was playing on the big screen. We got there just as Freema Agyeman was doing her intro! Yay! I missed the first few minutes of the dialogue as we were making our way through the crowds to find a good spot to stand (anywhere to sit had been bagged much earlier) and spent the next hour laughing, crying, cheering and clapping with the thousands of other people in the Square. An amazing experience! What a brilliant day!
