I Like To Think I Am Smart

Really, I like to think that I am smart. Then I come across shit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq5hFtxj6LA&feature=related. It is the Argentine production of  "Hairspray." As I am watching it, I realized I understand the musical a THOUSAND  TIMES BETTER. Why, because my first language was Spanish. And since my dad raised me on his favorites, I have a better memory of the 60's as a Spanish cultural revolution. The story of Tracy Turnblad makes no sense unless she is rebelling against old Latin traditions to embrace new American styles.  I still have the album collection of famous artists from that era who sang their classics and one-hit wonders in Spanish for the Latin market. The artists include: Frankie Valli, Nat King Cole & Charles Aznazour (I would have to dig through the crates for more). Many afternoons were spent daydreaming on my living room couch about "NaKinCol" singing about Navidad. Sample: Link Que locura.
