a touch of summer sunshine

Hi everyone, and greetings from sunny California, where SPF 55 sunblock has become my new best friend.  I love the colors of summer, where everything is bright and colors pop right before your eyes.  And what better way to celebrate this than by altering a burlap canvas panel by District Market for Tim Holtz with a whole bunch of mediums, and some TH techniques?

It's so bright and cheery, isn't it? What I did was wash off-white paint very thinly over the butterfly background to create a misty veil, then spray it with a variety of mediums.  I used Adirondack Color Wash, Dylusions spray, chalkboard mist, and glimmer mist. Layers and layers.  There is no right or wrong way.  Just go ahead, do it and experiment.  Don't like what you see? Mist with water and wipe it off.

Once I was happy with the background, I started building the LO.  Took a Hambly ( I love the new white ones) and raised it on foam to give it that 'floaty look'.  Cos the background was all rainbow-y, I created a tag with TH distress ink blending technique, as well as stamped with distress ink on watercolor paper, another TH technique.  Go buy his Compendium of Curiosities books, or sign up for the online Creative Chemistry 101 class, and you'll learn how to do those techniques too.

Then it was a matter of building, and embellishing.  The bunting adds a fun aspect to the LO, and I love the title, I always feel that the kids go a little crazy in the sunshine, being Singapore kids they are always cooped up indoors going from class to class or indoor play.  To create the word title, I sprayed with color wash, dylusions and glimmer misted, and then finally embossed with UTEE.

Hope you all like it!
