On Monday I had a coconut to drink. Punctured the husk to insert the straw but realized I needed another hole to be able to effectively get at my drink.
Took the opportunity to teach son (who was hovering nearby) about how poking the 2nd hole dispels the vacuum, thereby allowing air to go in so that coconut juice can come out.
Brought it one step further by explaining to him how it worked in evaporated milk cans.
Today after school he tells me that "oh Mummy! The milk can question came out and I knew how to answer!"
I was elated, until I found out that, when asked to explain why poking the 2nd hole allows the milk to come out faster, he had merely stated, it gets rid of the vacuum. Accurate, but hardly a 2 mark answer. Sigh.
