The fire in the belly did not consume Carin overnight.
I think copious amounts of water and tea throughout the day quenched it, and turning in early (10:00... almost unheard of in Carin's world) contributed to an overall goodness of feeling.
I'm still a wee bit tired, but not nearly as much as I would have been had I crashed at the normal time.
I will say this, though. I am a TROOPER for going to brass quintet rehearsal last night. We've got a small gig on the 25th, and only two more rehearsals until then, so I felt it was necessary to go. Overall, not too bad... but it SUCKS to play in your upper register when you have a stomach ache (all that diaphragm support is in direct conflict with the belly fire).
Here's our set list:
Mozart's
Ave Verum, which is GORGEOUS. It's one of my favorite things to play, right after our dixieland version of Amazing Grace (those of you in attendance at Joe and I's wedding may remember when we played it - those of you not in attendence missed out on seeing a bride sit down and pick up a tuba).
Two of Bach's
Goldberg Variations: No. 31 and No. 18 (I like 18 better, and insisted that we play it - we were originally just going to do 31)
Mozart's
Eine kleine Nachtmusik, which is always a crowd favorite, and deceptively simple to play (even though it sounds tricky). I always want to blaze through it, and am constantly having to reign myself in on the tempo.
Handel's
Judas Maccabeus, which is fun, but has a tuba solo at the beginning of the coda (gulp). It's funny... I'm such an outspoken person and have NO problem speaking in front of crowds, but I get PERTIFIED about playing solos. I love playing with the group, but always get nervous if there is a section where I play alone. I don't understand it. I wonder if it's at all related to my terror of singing in front of people?
After rehearsal I chilled on the couch for a bit, and played with the cats and one of their new toys: this little bit of cardboard on the end of a wire (a housewarming gift from
couplandesque for the boys, isn't she awesome?). It's a rediculously simple device, but they are ENTRANCED. I think it's because it mimicks the movement of a bug. They were into it for the entire episode of SCI, I kid you not. And because I was playing with them I wasn't knitting, which made my wrist and the knot in my shoulders happy.
Yesterday I put that damnable grant in the mail, and have pretty much finished the press release for Quills/FGH. The next thing on the list is the press photo shoot. So today looks like a pretty light day of work, maybe I'll get some reading in on
Tete a Tete this afternoon.
Tonight? The reading of Feelgood Hits of the '70s.
So, overall, today it's Happy Carin Doll, now with Speed Knitting Action!
