The Actor and Clay

May 13, 2009 14:51

Thursday started off lovely.  The weather (as would be the case for 95% of the trip) was gorgeous, the jetlag was a thing of the past, the city was waiting.

We began with a trip to St Paul's "The Actor's" Church, right off Camden Market.
It was a beautiful little church, lined stem to stern with plaques remembering different theatricians.

A brief trip, but totally worth it.

We puttered around the Market for a little while, and bought some awesome rings from a street vendor... her jewelry was all utensils refashioned into rings, bracelets, etc.  Ours were teaspoons flattened and reworked into rings.

Then we stumbled upon the Toy Theater Shop.

It was nothing but miniature sets and models.

Awesome.

After lunch we headed back to the Science Museum to further investigate the Wallace & Gromit exhibit.
It wasn't as cool as we'd hoped.  It seemed like it was more an exhibit about inventing and used the W&G as packaging.  Now, I'm totally cool with an exhibit about inventors, but only if that's what I'm expecting.

It was still neat to see some of the W&G sets, though.

Dinner was some al fresco Italian right on the Thames Walk, just down from the National.  Delicious.

That night we had tickets for Dido, Queen of Carthage.  Although it was nice to see the work of a contemporary of Shakespeare shortly before producing one ourselves (Spanish Tragedy), the production wasn't that invigorating.  A few good performances in the key roles and that was about it.
