theater review: Hedwig

Jul 16, 2008 21:47

Hedwig and the Angry Inch, at the Jungle.

The show is so specific, there's not much you can do besides be faithful to the original, which this production was.
For a first preview I thought they did a rockin' job.  The music was tight, the singing was polished, Hedwig owned the show (as she should).  I was surprised at how much the audience (of a more traditional, elderly bent) enjoyed the show.

But it really belongs in a club, not a theater.

4 out of 5 stars.

ps.  After the show we were interviewed on camera for the trailer.  I'm hoping that if they use me in any footage, I don't sound like too much of a dipshit (or look like something the cat dragged in).  I'm no good at this "in front of the scenes" shit.
