I got up early today to get to the post office ATM, to see if my cheque had arrived in my bank account. There was only £5,16 there. Luckily I had the common sense to have a bag full of 5p's from my piggy bank, which I changed in the PO for a fiver. I bought cat food as my cupboard is bare, it's not his favourite but needs must. When I came back from the shops I noticed the mail had arrived, but again it wasn't the emergency cheque. I just knew it! I felt so down, so helpless. I just wanted to curl up in bed and say damn the bloody world I'm not playing anymore. I have no desire to go down that path again so, I went to see the doctor instead. I told her all about the stress I was in and being 7 weeks without any money other than the last of my savings and my rent being overdue too!
I knew of course that there was nothing she could do but I needed to let off steam and I also needed to let her know that things were not going well with me lately. She had a few helpful hints on how to handle the DWP, and suggested me going to the Citizen's Advice Bureau, trouble is I know you have to be up to Fishponds CAB early to get an appointment.
Anyway I phone the DWP and was on the line for ages then I'd get bumped off, but after trying for a long time I finally got through to them.
How I managed to keep polite and my voice low toned and soft I don't know because my mind was busy sharpening an axe! I spoke to Chloe again and asked her what was happening. She claimed that they HAD already sent out the emergency cheque and I should have recieved it by now. If I haven't received it then I should fill in a lost cheque form and return it to the office and they will send me a replacement. It will be lucky if I get any action for the next 4 days!
I asked how the cheque sent straight to my bank account was getting on. "Oh she". said "You aren't due for a payment until next week!" "Begging your pudding." says I. I'm talking about the 2 weeks from 4th of March to the 20th. Well it turns out that they didn't put it in until the day later, which means the cheque will appear in my account tomorrow. Still keeping my voice low and polite, I warned her that should it not be there I was going to my Member of Parliment. I thanked her for her trouble and put the phone down, only to realise I had forgotten to ask her to send me a letter stating that I AM entitled to the money for the last 7 weeks, so I can have my Housing Benefit back dated. I tried to get through again and wasn't able to, I wonder why.
Anyway I had an appointment with Sarah Mortimer the Reiki theorapist at 5pm and while it took a while for me to calm down, I did finally de-stress. I walked back in the pouring rain hopeful that tomorrow will bring better things.
If it doesn't my axe is already sharpened!
