iTunes and MP3 player

I saw there were a few programs out there that allow you to download your iTtunes catalog to other devices (MP3s) that are not iPods.  Has anyone had any success at doing this and if so - which one do you suggest? an iPod is not in the budget right now - GAS is!! LOL
