Thursday
Seventeen years ago, I was in a hospital, patiently waiting my turn to deliver a baby (yes, I intended that pun, ha!). The kid now towers over me and is a great joy to me. I think I'll keep him.
The best part of aaaallllllll the Christmas crunch was the people. That's the memory I am left with, is the wonderful visits I had with people that I love. I am pleased with how the house turned out, although next year I hope to have more lights. You can never have enough lights.
My kids got me a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I'm so excited! Can't wait to paint her a put her in the back yard with the Gnome of My Dreams and the birds. Maybe she can drive the d*** squirrels away. For those of you who don't know, the statue is a reference to a game I invented to play with the kids during the last part of our drives to Louisiana. Once we got off of I-10 to head towards DeRidder, the Mary statues began to bloom in every other yard. So, whoever saw one first could call out "Mary!" and earn either points or a quarter. My purpose was not only to keep them entertained for the last 2 hours of their drive, but to impress upon them a sense of Louisiana culture. It is a fond memory for us all, and I am very touched that they got this for me. They also climbed a tree to get me some real mistletoe, since I couldn't find any fake in any craft or dollar store. They had fun and didn't die doing it, so it may become a tradition.
