Crawling Towards the Finish Line

Friday. Oh dear God, thank you for Friday.

Who'da thunk a church would be so busy around Christmas time? I just got to work, and I am still exhausted from yesterday. I have to be sure the 1,200 candles (along with their drip protectors) to be used during the Christmas eve candlelight services get to the right place today. I have to hand-make drip protectors for the larger candles used by the ministers & deacons, who have to light everyone else's candles. I have to set up the TV title machine for 3 more services, having set up for 2 yesterday. I have to format & plug in the data for the "preaching, praying & call to worship" schedule of which minister will do what on which service. Etc., etc., etc. It's too bad Christmas tasks & end of the year/startup of the next year tasks have to occur in the same time frame.

Yesterday, the staff luncheon that I was in charge of arranging went off okay. There was room for improvement, but fortunately most of that would be on the part of the restaurant. Most folks are happy for free food and a chance to ditch work, so most were pretty pleased.

My house is a wreck. I still have a lot of Christmas stuff to do. Alex gets home today. The new lawyer already drafted the thingy that you submit to court to start the case. I have to go up to Cornelius on Wednesday and sign it. Hoo boy, this lawyer means business--you should see some of the language. I'm supposed to keep chanting to myself, "It's a business transaction, it's a business transaction."

One high spot of the season turned out to be the Wednesday Worship service this week. The sermon was wonderful & left a warm Christmas feeling. The music was stunning--a handbell and classical guitar version of Greensleeves. Then I had my usual delightful visit with friend Lynn, supplemented by Christmas gift exchanging, which added to the delightfulness.

Merry Christmas, y'all!
