Up until a few days ago, I had no idea what I was going to wear to the Derby. We made our Louisville hotel reservations for this year's Derby five months ago, after Street Sense won the Breeders Cup Juvenile. Yet here we are in late April, two weeks before the Derby, and I still hadn't pulled together the clothing part of the equation.
Here in Aspen, I have found most of the retail shops are either casual/ski wear or out-of-this-world fashion, with not much in between for someone normal like me. I walked the streets of downtown Aspen on Saturday looking for a store with timeless, quality clothing. I window shopped first.
Prada?? I didn't even go in.
Gucci? I don't want some silly ditty that will be out of style next season!
Egads! Who would wear that?
Looks great on you girls, but for me? No thanks.
Finally! I went into Ralph Lauren and the shopgirl, Lisa, helped me find the right thing to wear. Lisa was great. Some people just have the right touch in putting things together, and Lisa is first class in that department. Thank goodness for Ralph. He keeps it real. I'm all set for the Derby now, and I'll definitely go back to Ralph Lauren in the future.
