Last Saturday, Street Sense ran in the Bluegrass Stakes in Lexington, Kentucky. It was his final prep race before the Kentucky Derby. Street Sense ran second, beaten a scant nose in a thrilling finish. We are going to attend the May 5th Kentucky Derby this year because our good friend, Carl Nafzger, trains Street Sense. Carl won the 1990 Kentucky Derby with Unbridled. I used to work for Carl as an exercise rider in the 1980s and 1990s, and had the privilege to have ridden Unbridled. My husband, Clint, went to work for Carl at age 16 and they have been friends now for 30 years. So the ties run deep...we are very excited.
You may remember last November when I
blogged about Street Sense winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile, which stamped him as the early favorite for the 2007 Derby and the horse to beat. Once we arrive in Kentucky in early May, I'll be blogging about Street Sense and the excitement that surrounds Derby Week.
Here is Street Sense (in the blue and yellow) getting beat a nose by Dominican in last Saturday's Bluegrass Stakes.
