Music of 2009

Nov 26, 2009 01:09

I love doing this and I don't know why.

So, 2009. I don't decide based on when the album was released, but on the fact that I discovered the artist in 2009. This was not a year of music discovery that can be credited to music blogs. Usually, it is due to them, but I haven't been agreeing with them for a while.

Besides that, I rarely agree with the music blogs top picks of the year. It's usually all male musicians, but every once in a a female talent might be floating somewhere around 9 - if we're lucky. And, they all look about the same.

I don't see the point in re-congratulating the same talent year after year. Yes, they're good. We know that. Though, at least it's not a Radiohead year. THAT was annoying.

10. Florence + The Machines
The vocal power in her amazes.

- The Dog Days Are Over - Lung [2009] (It starts out so innocently)

9. Rachael Cantu
She's newer to me, but seems very promising.

- Sweat & Bones - Run All Night [2006] "doesn't make you a liar. It just makes you wrong."
8. The Kills

- Black Balloon - Midnight Boom [2008]
- Wait - Keep On Your Mean Side [2003]

7. East Hundred
I simply love their songs.

- Plus Minus - Passenger [2009]6. Cruel Black Dove
The lead singer is entirely so sexy. What a vixen. She really matches her vocals to her lyrics.

- Love Song - Dirt & Heat [2008]
- Offer - Full Powers [2007]

5. Miss Emily Brown
Her music is completely serene. It reminds me of clouds in summertime.

- Sleeping Lion - Part of You Pours Out Of Me [2008]
- Spindrift - Part of You Pours Out Of Me [2008]

3. Shannon Wright

- St. Pete - Let In the Light [2007]
A line that always gets me: "and I wish God would make things clear"

2. Clara Luzia
Something about that voice. Mixed in with the original composition style of the song. Perfect.

- Moring Light - The Long Memory [2007]
- Fine - Railroad Tracks [2006]
- Chelsea The Long Memory [2007] "Oh how I wish you were here. heeeere."1. Elsiane
She creates symphonic/ambient/chill out music and it's wonderful. She has great octave range and her voice is almost an instrument itself.

- Across the Stream - Hybrid [2007]
