It astounds me that African lit and African-American lit are lump summed together, insinuating the experiences portrayed in the book are the same. The equivalent of that stupidity would be like saying European literature is the same as American literature. But of course nobody would say that, nobody would even draws parallels between the two. Because they are entirely unrelated. Would anyone compare Tolstoy to Poe? Of course not! Such thinking is brought to you by the same people who think Africa is a country. And if they're smart enough to know that's not true, they think it's a culturally homogeneous desolate wasteland.
