more a cappella Christmas music

Last week I posted some a cappella Christmas music by Rajaton. That music was from the first CD of their Christmas album and this time I'm posting the second one. I think the first one is all about playing with voices, effects and the concept of Christmas music. The second one is clearly a love letter to older Christmas songs and hymns. It was recorded in a church and the song choices and performances are more traditional and spiritual. But it's still beautiful!

So, the second CD of the Christmas album is Rajaton Joulu 2. (24 MB)

My favourites:

Toivioretkellä (Also called 'Maa on niin kaunis' and 'Härlig är jorden' på svenska) One of my favourite Christmas hymns of all time. That beautiful soprano voice traveling above the other singers is wonderful.

Joululaulu Another old favourite. I clearly have a thing for sopranos. ;-)

Jeesuslapsen joululahjat I like the melancholy and secretive feel of the song.

Jeesuksen seimellä They sound like an entire choir at some points and that's pretty amazing. Slow and unstoppable.

Vuotaa armo, taivaan ilo Again, a thing for sopranos.

Jouluhymni Peaceful, joyful, beautiful. The harmonies!

Also, my brain doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so tell me if there's something wrong with the files or links. I think I checked them all but I'm not sure.

By the way, did you know that It[a cappella] is often misspelled as a capella, which is derived from the Latin spelling (but in Latin capella means small goat). *g* Small goats for everyone!
