Underneath his clothes, there was a vulnerable being that longed to be touched. He was afraid of being rejected and hurt like he had so many times before. But when he was alone with Donghae, it was enough to make him want to be honest and open and free to do and say whatever he wanted.

“Why are you staring at me like that?” he asked, sounding like he was uncomfortable with Donghae’s eyes on him. He wasn’t, but he wasn’t yet ready to be completely honest.

Donghae smirked, not with mischief on his mind, but rather change.

“I’m not staring at you. I’m merely glancing in your direction.”

Ryeowook sighed, feeling disappointed that he wasn’t being gawked at by the man he desired. He adjusted himself in his seat, putting his legs up in front of him and clutching at them tightly. Donghae could see the vulnerability just in Ryeowook’s stance. He felt a little bit guilty, even though he knew that he wasn’t the source of Ryeowook’s frailty. It was merely how the younger man had always been, ever since the two of them were first introduced.

Ryeowook looked at Donghae, causing the other to look away. It was odd. Although in reality, Donghae was just becoming more nervous just from being around Ryeowook, the other man believed it was due to some repulsion that had developed in the last 30 seconds or so.

Another sigh was heard.

Donghae looked up and walked over to Ryeowook. Ryeowook released his legs and sat straight up in his seat. He felt even more nervous because now Donghae’s stare was piercing right through him. There was no looking away and there was no escaping to his bedroom. Ryeowook could only occasionally make eye contact before coughing and looking away.

He moved his head only slightly when Donghae put his hand to the other’s cheek. He made sure Ryeowook was staring right at him even if his eyes kept darting back and forth like he was in danger and looking for an escape. Donghae leaned over and gently kissed Ryeowook.

Ryeowook felt shock overcome but eventually he gave in; his eyes closed and his lips pursed. His cheeks were red but he wasn’t embarrassed.

When he no longer felt Donghae’s lips on his, his eyes opened. He blinked a few times just to make sure what was happening was real. Donghae looked away and Ryeowook’s self-conscious state of mind returned, leading him to believe he had disgusted the other man.

He tried to get up but in a split second, he felt Donghae’s entire weight on top of him, pushing him back down onto his seat. He was being straddled by the other man and wasn’t sure whether to feel elated or to feel sick at Donghae’s body practically suffocating him. He chose the former and waited to be kissed again. Donghae did not keep him waiting for long; he kissed him again, but with more force this time around.

Ryeowook felt a chill, and his skin started to tingle. He could hardly breathe but was nowhere near passing out. Donghae opened his eyes and let go, once again staring at Ryeowook who had his eyes closed.

“Why did you do that?” he asked Donghae, once his eyes were open.

“Impulse, sheer impulse,” he responded, hoping to sound a lot less nervous than he really was.

Ryeowook looked away, blushing, this time from embarrassment. Maybe Donghae was drunk or was lacking sleep. Or maybe he was lonely without Eunhyuk around, or Kibum, or whoever else. Ryeowook was sure that he was just there, conveniently, only to amuse Donghae.

Donghae got up and walked back over to where he had previously been sitting. He sighed and seemed to act as if nothing had just happened. Ryeowook felt his chest grow heavy and he instinctually got up and left the room. He walked down the hallway to his bedroom and shut the door behind him. The slam of it caused Donghae to exhale deeply and with a hint of remorse.

He knew what he was doing and what it would entail yet Donghae couldn’t help but act like he had expected things to turn out differently. He chose not to leave his spot, go to Ryeowook’s room, explain to him he was lying and that he had been wanting to kiss him all along. He wanted to but he couldn’t. There was no real reason why but Donghae knew it was important enough and deep enough to keep him completely immobile at that moment.

The next morning, Ryeowook woke up and opened his bedroom door. He’d slept by himself that night and was hoping that Donghae had done the same. He walked down the hallway and saw that the other man’s door was open. He peeked inside, only to see Donghae, smiling with his arm around Eunhyuk’s shoulder. The two weren’t doing anything in particular so it made Ryeowook question why they were acting so friendly.

“Oh, Ryeowook, good morning,” Eunhyuk said upon seeing him.

Donghae looked up and stopped smiling. Ryeowook made eye contact with him and without saying another word, ran off, back down the hall, from where he came.

“Hey, Ryeowook!” Donghae yelled, letting go of Eunhyuk and jumping off from the bed. He ran after Ryeowook who stopped short of actually getting back into his room. Donghae grabbed him and pushed him against the wall. Ryeowook started to cry, both from the pain of seeing the man he loved with someone else as well as the force of Donghae’s push.

“Look at me,” Donghae said in a stern voice.

Ryeowook shook his head and closed his eyes, sniffling the entire time.

“Look at me, Ryeowook!”

Ryeowook opened his eyes, as they were, tear-filled and bloodshot. Donghae was taken aback but didn’t let it show. He pulled Ryeowook away from the wall and into his room, out of earshot of Eunhyuk or anyone else.

He closed the door and stared at Ryeowook, who continued to cry. Without saying a word, Donghae pulled Ryeowook into a tight embrace. He put his cheek against the other man’s head and whispered to him.

“Why do you have to cry like this? I wasn’t doing anything wrong.”

Ryeowook started to cry harder, signaling that he couldn’t believe that Donghae didn’t see what he had done wrong.

“Are you seriously crying because of Eunhyuk?”

Ryeowook’s sobs started to soften but his tears wouldn’t stop flowing.

Donghae rolled his eyes.

“You shouldn’t be jealous of Eunhyuk. He’s my best friend and that’s it. If I’m touchy with him, it’s just because we’re super close and that’s it.”

Ryeowook’s crying wouldn’t stop and Donghae started to wonder if the other man even believed what he was saying.

“Ryeowook-you have to believe me when I say this. There is no one else. It’s only you.”

Ryeowook’s heart stopped. He looked into Donghae’s eyes while wiping his own. The tears seemed to stop, as did the breathy sounds he had been making.

He couldn’t speak so Donghae repeated what he had said.

“I don’t want anyone else. You’re the only one I want. I love you, Ryeowook.”

And with that, he kissed Ryeowook. But it didn’t feel like it did before, possibly because Ryeowook was sure of the feelings being conveyed. There was no question that Donghae really did love Ryeowook, the younger man could feel it.

“I-I love you, too,” he said with a weak smile and red eyes, “I love you, Donghae.”

THE END!
