Chapter 16 [part 2]
“Wait, your parents?”
Ueda didn’t listen and just started walking away, his hands in his pockets and his shoulders slumped. It was a pitiful sight since Ueda was always such a passionate person, whether he was happy, angry or depressed. To see him look so defeated was enough to get Yamapi riled up.
“That does it,” he muttered under his breath.
“What’s this about his parents?”
Yamapi kicked the door as hard as he could. Kame and Toma jumped back, scared but not daring to question why Yamapi’s demeanor had changed.
“His parents came back from America.”
He kicked it again.
“Turns out that they want Tatsuya to go back with them.”
Another kick landed on the door’s wooden surface.
“Tatsuya doesn’t want to-he said he doesn’t want to take a chance and leave Ryo.”
Yamapi kicked the door even harder.
“He thought it would be running away if he did leave. He wants to stay and fight for a chance to finally be happy with Ryo.”
He kicked once more.
“And after all that, Ryo won’t listen to him because he’s made some stupid shit up about Tatsuya and I getting back together. Thus, Tatsuya’s defeated manner and him giving up on a relationship with Ryo. He might end up telling his parents that he will join them in America.”
Yet another kick was placed against the door.
Yamapi grew frustrated and then started slamming against the door between every word he spoke.
“I-can’t-fucking-stand-how-stubborn-these-two-idiots-are!”
And with that last blow, the door came crashing down right in front of everyone. Through the slight cloud of dust that formed, Yamapi could see a shocked Ryo standing only inches away from where the door had fallen. With a smirk on his face, Yamapi came stomping and grabbed Ryo by his collar.
“Are you going to look at me now, jackass?!”
“What the hell is your problem?!”
“YOU ARE MY PROBLEM, DIPSHIT! EITHER TELL TATSUYA YOU’RE SORRY OR I’LL MAKE YOU!”
“I DON’T HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE! YOU AND HE ARE THE ONES WHO NEED TO TELL ME YOU’RE SORRY! I’M NOT THE ONE WHO’S DONE WRONG!”
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Ryo, there’s no wrongdoing here! The only one in the wrong is YOU for making up shit to get angry with Tatsuya over. Face it, you’re scared that he might really leave and you won’t get a chance to tell him that you love him. Am I right or am I right?!”
Ryo looked away, apparently because Yamapi was spot-on in his analysis of Ryo’s true feelings. Ryo was scared, about as scared as Ueda was, or possibly more so. There was a possibility that he would lose the one boy he had ever loved; problem was, Ryo wasn’t man enough to admit he was wrong.
“I don’t need to apologize to anyone,” he repeated in a calmer tone.
Yamapi let him go and shook his head.
“After all these years, I thought there would be nothing you could possibly do to make me give up on you. Well, congratulations. Turns out you’re just a big enough asshole to make me want to forget you even exist.”
And with that, Yamapi turned and left. Toma and Kame looked back at Ryo and then at each other before deciding to leave Ryo alone as well.
Ryo stood alone, in front of the door that Yamapi knocked down in order to confront him. No matter how much his pride wanted him to believe that he wasn’t as bad as Yamapi or Ueda made him out to be, he knew in his heart that he was only worse.
He felt a tear stream down his cheek but was quick to wipe it away. Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t cry; it wasn’t going to accomplish anything.
“Hi, Mom. Look, I’m sorry about earlier. I shouldn’t have reacted that way. I was just calling to let you know that I’m willing to talk things over with you and Dad. Would it be alright if I stayed the night with you guys?”
“Of course, sweetie. We’ll come to pick you up in a few minutes,” Ueda’s mother replied over the phone.
Ueda sighed softly.
“Okay, I’ll see you then.”
He closed his phone and fell back on his bed.
It was a little odd that he wasn’t crying when normally a bad fight with Ryo would result in a few tears shed. But this wasn’t just any fight; it was the worst one they’d ever had. There was no point in making up, Ueda thought. Ryo and he were simply not made to be together. It was as simple as that.
“I should pack,” he whispered to himself before getting up to pack an overnight bag for the night.
After telling his friends where he’d be, Ueda went to the front gates and waited for his parents to come for him. He felt a little melancholy as he waited there, even though he’d only be gone for the night. But what made him feel so depressed was the fact that he’d most likely end up going to America in the end. He was too wrapped up in his emotions to really think out the situation. It was just what he had to do.
Meanwhile, Ryo looked out the window and watched as Ueda stood outside, alone. It was clear that he wasn’t leaving the school for good at that moment but Ryo could still feel his heart break when he saw Ueda get into the cab that pulled up in front of him.
Ryo wished that he could just run down and stop everything from happening. The problem was his feet wouldn’t let him. His pride overtook and he felt that no matter what, he couldn’t just give in. He had to remain firm and let Ueda do what he wanted. The two of them were no longer involved with each other, as far as he was concerned, and there was nothing anyone could do to prevent the sudden turn of events from taking place.
As the taxi drove off, Ryo could feel his eyes water uncontrollably. He tried to stop the tears from flowing but they wouldn’t stop and before he knew it, he was on his knees, sobbing uncontrollably.
It was the first time he had cried so hard since his parents had died. But he felt as if the pain was worse this time around, possibly because he was more aware of his own faults in what had taken place. Unlike his parents’ death, this was something he could have prevented from happening.
He eventually fell on his side and cried on the floor for an hour before anyone had found him. Even then, Ryo wouldn’t stop crying. He couldn’t stop.
Ueda threw his bag on the hotel room floor as he made his way into his parents’ room. They had given him a key and were going off to dinner. Ueda had refused to go with them, telling them that he would much rather shower and watch TV. It had been a rough day for him. He was willing, however, to talk to them once they came back, but for now, he’d stay on his own.
After a long, soothing shower, Ueda came out of the bathroom to find that his cell phone was loaded with missed calls and text messages. He wasn’t sure why since all of his friends knew where he was.
But then he thought of the one person he hadn’t told.
“Ryo,” he whispered to himself.
He opened his phone and looked at who had sent the messages. Strangely enough, they were from Kame, Toma and Yamapi. Koki and Maru had been the ones to call him. He looked at one of the messages that Yamapi had left him.
“Toma found Ryo crying on the floor. He wouldn’t come with us to eat dinner and just stayed in his room. He’s pretty messed up.”
Ueda groaned. Rather than feeling sympathy or guilt, he felt annoyed.
“Stupid idiot acting all melodramatic for something that’s HIS fault.”
Ueda didn’t bother to read the rest and just shut off his phone. He couldn’t be burdened with knowing that Ryo was falling apart. It had nothing to do with him anymore; after all, they were never really a couple anyways.
Clearly, Ueda wasn’t thinking in his right mind. He, too, was too prideful to fix things with Ryo.
Later that night, he was falling in and out of sleep. He jolted awake when he heard the hotel door open only to realize it was just his parents coming back. He was confused as to why they had come back so late but didn’t bother asking once he heard what they were talking about.
“I can’t believe this,” his mother whispered.
“I know. It’s not an ideal situation but I would much rather be demoted than completely lose my job. Although, with the way things are, who knows if I will continue even working there?”
“Oh, dear, what are we going to do for finances-for food?”
“I don’t know. I just hope that Tatsuya changes his mind. It would be so much easier if he went back with us,” his father said, sounding very distraught and almost anxious for Ueda to change his mind.
Ueda gulped but continued to pretend to be asleep until he heard his parents get ready for bed. Once the light went off, Ueda got up. He looked over at the nightstand and grabbed his phone. He snuck out to the balcony and stared at his phone. He felt tempted to text Ryo for some reason. But his fingers wouldn’t move. He stared at the screen, desperately wanting to send a message to the other boy. His subconscious was working for itself because Ueda wasn’t aware of why he needed to write to Ryo.
Unsure of a reason, he closed his phone, walked back into the room and went to sleep.
The next morning, as his parents sat at the table, reading the morning paper, Ueda came out of the bathroom, dressed in his uniform and ready for school. Without even thinking twice, he simply said to his parents:
“Mom-Dad-I’m going back to America with you guys.”
Ryo got up, feeling the aftermath of the night before. It was like a bad hangover; his head hurt, he felt nauseous and he found it hard to move. His eyes felt swollen, which made sense since he spent most of the previous night bawling uncontrollably.
He ignored anything Maru would say to him and didn’t bother to make eye contact with any of his friends whom he passed on the way to class. He sat down in his desk and grunted heavily. Kame just stared at him, but Yamapi decided to speak up.
“You know Tatsuya is going back to America for real. He’s leaving tomorrow and he won’t be going to class today because he has to make arrangements to be moved out.”
Ryo just shrugged his shoulders and slouched in his chair.
“Do you understand what I’m saying, Ryo?”
Ryo turned to look at the other boy, only to glare at him.
“You’re never going to see Tatsuya again and you wanna know why?”
Ryo’s glare just became worse.
“Because you’re an idiot and an asshole and a stubborn bastard!”
Ryo jumped out of his seat and stared down at Yamapi.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?!”
Everyone in the classroom was staring at the two of them; thankfully, the teacher hadn’t yet arrived.
Yamapi stood up and looked Ryo straight in the eye.
He simply whispered, “You know exactly what you need to do.”
“You keep telling me to apologize! Well, guess what! I’m not going to. It’s too late for me and U-Ueda so why should I bother? If you have any better suggestions, let me know, but if not, just leave me the hell alone.”
Ryo turned away and sat back down in his desk, arms crossed and his gaze towards the window. Yamapi just sighed, feeling partly angry but mostly just disappointed. Clearly nothing was going to change Ryo’s mind and it seemed like the end for him and Ueda.
Pretty soon, it was Ueda’s last day. As was expected, Ryo and he never exchanged a single word much less saw each other since their last fight.
Ueda felt a sense of bitterness eat at the back of his throat. He couldn’t stomach the thought of leaving but there was nothing more he could do at that point.
He’d said his goodbyes to his friends the night before, just before he went to sleep. Since he’d be leaving around the time that they would all have homeroom, it seemed more appropriate to say his farewells the night before. He also thought it would be a good idea to spend his last night in Japan in his dorm room, at least the one he shared with Koki.
It turns out that he never did end up moving back in with Ryo. He hadn’t been in that room, as its resident in just about a month. Any time Ueda had been in there since he’d moved out was quick to be interrupted by either a fight with Ryo or by the interruption of Yamapi. Either way, it was a spoiled moment that made both Ryo and Ueda resent the room and the memories it held.
Ueda wanted to clear his mind before he left the school. It was morning and his parents would be at the front gates in a half hour. He needed to box up the last of his things and make sure that he didn’t let his emotions get the best of him.
Half hour later and Ueda felt a tug at his chest. His friends were all in homeroom and he wouldn’t get a chance to see them before he left. What hurt the most was that Ryo was nowhere to be seen not just at that moment, but also for the past few days. Ueda’s pride had gotten in the way as had Ryo’s and now it was too late for either one of them. Or so it would seem.
“I’ll be right down,” Ueda said in a soft tone of voice to his mother on the phone. When he closed it, he sighed and looked around, touching the wall next to him before grabbing his bags and the box that held most of his things. He turned once more before walking out of the room for what would be the last time.
Meanwhile, Ryo had woken up late and was hurrying as best he could. He collected his things, completely forgetful of what that day was. He was looking for his math book, which he spotted on the windowsill. He flew across the room to grab it but stopped when he looked out the window. He saw Ueda’s willowy figure from three stories up, walking towards the front gates. He could see Ueda’s parents and the headmistress standing in front of a cab, waiting for Ueda to come towards them.
Ryo grunted, feeling frustrated, but as he was growing more and more annoyed, he stopped. He had remembered what his grandmother had told him all along about protecting Ueda at all costs. It was imperative that he, Ryo, would make sure that Ueda was always safe and that he was doing his best. The echoes in his head drove him crazy, but they were too hard to ignore. Ryo knew what he needed to do; it was not too late.
Ueda felt a tear stream down his cheek as his father turned away after having grabbed the box from him to put it away. He wiped away the tear’s track when his father looked back at him, not wanting to seem too emotional in front of the man he respected most.
He sighed and though his mother put her hand on his shoulder as means to comfort him, he could barely manage a smile that did little to mask how horrible he felt inside. Once the last of the baggage was put into the car, Ueda took a final look at the school he had called home for the last two years.
“Goodbye-Ryo,” he whispered under his breath.
“Come on, Tatsuya, it’s time to go,” his mother smiled.
Ueda was about to enter the taxi when he heard a voice.
“YOU CAN’T TAKE HIM!”
Ueda turned around, as did his parents and the headmistress. Ueda’s eyes widened and his breath fell short as he looked back behind him.
“Ryo-”
Ryo was standing on the front steps of the school’s main building. He seemed short of breath but that didn’t stop him. He ran over to Ueda and his parents with a look of determination on his face.
“I can’t let you do this, Ueda-kun, I just can’t. There’s no reason for you to leave.”
“I have to leave. I have to go to America with my parents-it’s the right thing for me to do.”
Ryo looked at Ueda’s parents and bowed the upper half of his body as far as he could.
“PLEASE LET YOUR SON STAY!”
“Tatsuya-who is this?” his mother said with a slight smile on her face, most likely because she found Ryo to be very good-looking.
“Mom-Dad, this is Nishikido Ryo. He’s my-roommate.”
Ryo looked up, still with the look of determination that made Ueda’s body shiver.
“I really would like it if you could let your son stay at St. Sebastian’s. We have to graduate together.”
“I’m sorry, Nishikido-kun, but this is something between Tatsuya’s father and I. We cannot just let you get in the middle of it,” Ueda’s mother replied in the nicest possible voice.
“PLEASE! We have to graduate together! I promised Ueda-kun that I would never leave his side.”
Ueda’s eyes started to well up and he clutched the handle of his suitcase.
Ueda’s father appeared annoyed as he said, “Young man, I don’t think you understand what is going on here. We are Tatsuya’s parents and we want our son back in America with us.”
“Please excuse my selfishness but I love your son and I don’t want him to leave!”
“You love him?”
Ryo blushed ever so slightly, only realizing what he had just said.
But just as Ueda was going to explain, Toma, Yamapi and the others came running out to the front gate. They stood just behind Ryo, all looking so concerned about Ueda’s sudden departure, despite their knowledge of where he stood at the moment.
“Ueda-kun, you can’t possibly think that leaving is the right thing,” Toma said, sounding out of breath.
“Yeah, don’t you realize how lost we’d all be without you?” Yamapi’s voice cracked.
Kame looked like he was about to break down.
“Tat-chan-I stayed in Japan so I could be with you and now you’re leaving me-AGAIN?”
“Ueda-kun-please say you’ll stay,” Koki said with sad eyes.
“Yeah, Ueda-kun, say you’ll stay,” Maru added.
“Everyone-”
It seemed that though he had their support beforehand, Ueda’s friends had come to their senses and realized that even though they wanted to respect his wishes, they were too afraid of letting him go. Ueda seemed lost at this notion but was so touched that his friends cared enough to try to persuade him to stay.
“Tatsuya, are you sure this is what you want to do? When we first told you, you were so against leaving. Why the change?” Ueda’s mother asked.
Ueda turned and looked his mother in the eyes. He sighed faintly and smiled awkwardly.
“I heard about the money problems you’re having and I wanted to help out. I figure if I go to public school instead of a private school in America and I get a job then I could help you guys pay the bills.”
His father chimed in, looking quite confused, “Money problems? What money problems?”
Ueda blinked.
“I overheard you two talking about not being able to afford food anymore and how Dad was worried about losing his job.”
Ueda’s parents looked at each other and then back at Ueda. He continued blinking rapidly, and looked like he was beyond confused about the situation.
“That was-um-a little lie we told,” Ueda’s mother replied, sheepishly.
“WHAT?!”
“Well, we knew you wouldn’t come home with us if everything was fine. We’d just seem like selfish parents. The truth, Tatsuya, is that we miss you. We miss having you around with us and it pains us that you have to live so far away. I know it may sound wrong for two parents to wish their son to leave all his friends and his homeland but-we really wanted you to come live with us.”
“She’s telling the truth, son,” Ueda’s father added, “We just wanted to be with you again. We miss having you around the house.”
Ueda felt his eyes water; he wasn’t sure whether to be angry that his parents had lied or happy that so many people cared about him.
Ueda choked, “Mom-Dad-”
Ueda’s mother looked at her son and then at the group of boys that were his friends.
“Are all these boys your friends, Tatsuya?”
Toma and the rest smiled and then bowed.
“We’re Ueda-kun’s friends-we would like for him to stay, if that’s not too much to ask.”
“Do you boys love Tatsuya too?” Ueda’s mother said while stifling a giggle.
The boys gave her an odd look but when they looked at how embarrassed Ryo appeared, they quickly nodded their heads.
“YES! Ueda-kun-we love him, don’t we, guys?” Toma rallied the others.
“YES! He’s very important to us,” Kame smiled.
“Yes, we love him-so friggin’ much,” Yamapi’s voice quivered.
Ueda’s parents looked at Ueda, as he tried hard not to let anyone see how humiliated he seemed. His friends were trying to do him some good but he felt like this was all such a terrible scheme to keep his parents from knowing that he had fallen in love with his roommate.
“Mom-Dad-” he started.
He stopped and took a deep breath.
“Mom, Dad, I want to stay in Japan. I want to stay at St. Sebastian’s. I want to spend the rest of my high school years-graduate with my best friends and become a reliable adult. Please let me stay.”
Ueda bowed deeply, in the direction of his parents. Ryo looked at his friends and they all nodded before they joined in the deep bowing, hoping it would convince Ueda’s parents to let him stay.
“Well, Riko, what do you think?” Ueda’s father smiled.
Ueda’s mother sighed contentedly, “I think that Tatsuya has become a better person than we ever dreamed he could be. And it’s all thanks to St. Sebastian’s-and to these wonderful boys-especially Nishikido-kun.”
Ryo blushed deeply as Ueda’s mother winked at him. She wasn’t trying to be suggestive but rather trying to show he understood the complex relationship he had with her son.
Ueda’s father nodded, agreeing with everything his wife had said.
“Okay, well, then-Tatsuya, if you want to stay here, there’s nothing we can do to stop you.”
Ueda looked up, a shocked expression on his face.
“Are you serious?!”
“Yes-we’ll be happy to let you stay here-with all your friends so that you can graduate with them. It wouldn’t be right of us to make you leave Japan.”
Ueda started to get emotional as he ran over to his parents and hugged them both tightly.
He whispered, “Thank you-for everything.”
Ueda’s mother smiled and patted his shoulder.
“Don’t worry, Tatsuya. Your father and I will continue to support you no matter what-in every aspect of your life.”
She once again looked at Ryo who couldn’t help but blush in response. Ryo looked away and Ueda’s mother turned her attention back to her son.
“We love you, Tatsuya. We only want what’s best for you,” she said as she put her hand on his cheek.
Ueda felt the warmth of his mother’s touch and felt at ease. He nodded and smiled, trying fairly hard to keep from crying. His mother noticed and grabbed hold of him, pulling him closely and giving him a warm embrace. His father did the same thing and for a few moments, it seemed like the rest of the world did not exist. Ueda had longed for his parents’ loving support ever since they had first left for America, and he was more than glad to know that he had had it all along.
“Well, I guess we should get back to class, shouldn’t we, boys?” Ryo’s grandmother asked with a slightly authoritative tone. She then smiled warmly, letting the boys know that they were in no way, in trouble for having left their classrooms.
“Yes, headmistress,” they all responded. Ryo was going to go along with his friends but his grandmother stopped him.
“Ryo,” she said, “I think it would be best if you were to help Ueda-kun get his stuff back to his room so his parents can make their flight.”
Ryo’s heart beat ever so quickly as he took a brief moment to glance at Ueda, whom he could see was now blushing uncontrollably.
“Yes, headmistress,” Ryo replied almost instinctually. He went towards the trunk and grabbed as much as he could and practically ran up the walkway, managing to miraculously keep his balance and his composure. Ueda grabbed what was left before saying goodbye to his parents, who assured him that they would keep in contact and would notify when they got back home. Ueda smiled and gathered his belongings, stopping only to thank the headmistress.
“You’re welcome, Ueda-kun,” she said, seeming almost surprised that she was being thanked for anything. Ueda just smiled and went on to follow Ryo back to the dorms.
Ueda hadn’t quite caught sight of where exactly Ryo had ran off to but when he noticed that Ryo’s dorm room was open, Ueda couldn’t help but check to see if the other boy was there.
Sure enough, there was Ryo. He was standing by what used to be Ueda’s bed and there were Ueda’s belongings on top of the mattress. The younger boy smiled, as if signifying that they were where they really belonged.
“What about Maru?” Ueda asked without really thinking.
“I’m sure he’ll understand. It’s not like I’m kicking him out,” Ryo smiled a smile that made Ueda’s heart melt.
Ueda set his things down on the bed and felt Ryo’s presence, just behind him. His heart was beating so fast and he found it hard to stand still. He then turned around to look at the other boy, almost like he was finally facing the feelings that he had tried so hard to deny.
Ryo just stared at Ueda. But before he said anything, he turned towards the door. Ueda wasn’t sure if he was leaving or not, but could only scoff when the younger boy closed it and proceeded to lock it as well.
“That should do it,” Ryo whispered, before turning around to look at Ueda.
He walked over and, with a loving look in his eyes, he sighed.
“It’s taken this long but-I finally can say it to you.”
Ueda blushed, as he felt Ryo’s breath against his skin. He smiled nervously and replied, “What?”
Ryo put his hand against Ueda’s cheek and stroked it gently. Ueda sighed as the other’s hand grazed his skin. He looked at Ryo and felt pure ecstasy. It wasn’t the first time he had been in that position but he still felt as if it was.
“Tatsuya,” Ryo said softly.
Ueda closed his eyes. Upon opening them, he could still see Ryo looking at him, licking his lips and taking deep breaths.
“Tatsuya, I-”
“What?”
“I-”
“What is it, Ryo?”
Ryo grew frustrated. It was apparent in the scowl that formed on his face and in the deepening of his voice. He was clearly at a loss for words and it was eating at him.
“Ryo, what is it? You look nervous.”
“I just-ah-why is this so hard?!”
Ueda giggled softly.
“I know exactly what you want to say, Ryo. You don’t have to say it out loud if you don’t want to.”
“It’s not that! It’s just-gawd, why am I so bad at these kinds of things?”
Ryo mussed his hair as if it would help him figure out what the problem was. He looked at Ueda who smiled warmly, despite his disappointment that Ryo could not properly confess. He groaned.
Ryo now had a look of determination on his face.
“Oh hell.”
He grabbed Ueda and kissed him, firmly on the mouth. Ueda was taken aback at first, but not entirely surprised things would lead to this. He was surprised however when Ryo pushed him forward and then down on his bed.
Ryo hovered over him, looking down on him like a predator waiting to attack his prey. Despite the look Ryo had on his face, Ueda wasn’t scared. Instead he felt warmth and joy, because now he was with the one person he loved most in the world; the one person he wanted to be with more than anything.
He was with Nishikido Ryo.
“Tatsuya-what I was trying to say before-”
“I know,” Ueda simply stated.
Ryo sighed a bit.
“I just have a hard time saying things that are so-I don’t know-mushy.”
Ueda laughed.
“It’s okay. I can tell exactly what you were trying to say.”
Ueda put his hand to Ryo’s chest; he could feel the rapid beating inside. He then felt his own heartbeat and felt a similar rhythm to that of Ryo’s. It was almost as if their hearts were really one.
“Ryo-I love you.”
Ryo smiled softly and lowered himself to kiss Ueda. As he lay on top of Ueda, the older boy wrapped his arms around Ryo’s neck and held him tight. They stayed like that for several moments before progressing.
Meanwhile, outside in the hall, Toma and Yamapi were speaking.
“What do you think they’re doing in there?” Toma whispered to Yamapi, who was leaning next to the door. He had tried, in vain, to open it but was unable to do so.
“I don’t want to know, but, at the same time, I can’t help but listen.”
Just then, Kame, along with Maru and Koki, came walking over. Kame gasped and immediately grabbed both Yamapi and Toma and pulled them away.
“What the hell are you two doing?!”
“SHHH!!”
“Don’t tell me to ‘shh’! What the hell are you doing? Are you spying on Tat-chan and Nishikido-kun?!”
Kame looked directly at Yamapi who then looked at Toma. Toma’s response was to whistle and look away, as if he had nothing to do with Yamapi’s actions.
“I’m just curious!” Yamapi finally blurted out.
“You-you really need to give it up! You’re beginning to act like such a creeper,” Kame said with a disgusted look on his face. He then turned and looked at Toma.
“And you,” he said with a point of his index finger, “Why are you allowing him to stalk Tat-chan like this?”
“I am not STALKING him. I’m merely curious as to what is going on between those two,” Yamapi grunted before putting his ear back to the door.
Kame sighed before grabbing Yamapi’s arm and pulling it back behind him. Yamapi started to wince in pain.
“OW OW OW OW OW!”
“Shut up! You and him are coming with me. You are not ruining this beautiful moment between Tat-chan and Nishikido-kun. If you do, I will make sure that your death will be painful and that you will suffer greatly. Am I making myself clear?”
Yamapi nodded, tears starting to form in his eyes. Kame rolled his eyes and let go of the older boy’s arm. Yamapi scurried down the hall, followed by Koki and Maru who were followed, in turn, by Kame and Toma.
Meanwhile, in the dorm room, Ueda was lying back on Ryo’s bed, feeling like he could throw up. Ryo was leaning over him, staring down at the beautiful boy underneath him. They were clearly in an awkward situation but it wasn’t as if they had been thinking before they landed in it.
Ryo stared blankly. He licked his lips and let out a single cough, clearing his throat like he was going to say something. Ueda just stared back, appearing awkward and unsure of what was to happen next.
Ryo then shook his head and began unbuttoning Ueda’s shirt. Ueda seemed to twitch a bit and that startled Ryo.
“What’s wrong?” he asked abruptly.
Ueda opened his eyes, “Huh? Oh-nothing, it’s nothing. I’m fine. G-go ahead.”
Ryo sat up straight. He took his hands and put them in his lap.
“I’m sorry.”
Ueda’s head tilted to the side ever so slightly.
“You’re sorry?” he sat up and put his back towards the wall, as he sat next to Ryo.
“I’m sorry for causing you so much pain in the past. I’m sorry for having made you even consider moving to another country.”
Ueda looked closer and could see Ryo had started to cry. He started to feel guilty for some reason, even though it was Ryo who was the one in need of apologizing.
Ueda put his hand on Ryo’s cheek and made the other boy look at him.
“Ryo-you don’t need to apologize. Even if things were bad between us in the past, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than with you by my side. Because, believe it or not, though you’re the person who’s hurt me the most, you’re the one person who I can’t imagine my life without.”
Ryo looked in Ueda’s eyes and could see the honesty in them. Without saying a single word, he kissed Ueda deeply. Ueda was caught off guard but gave in almost instantly. He started to lean backwards and eventually fell back onto the bed, with Ryo on top of him. As they continued to kiss, Ryo once again began unbuttoning Ryo’s uniform shirt.
When he unbuttoned it, he opened it and started to slide the shirt off the other boy’s body. They never broke their kiss as they began undressing one another. Within seconds, they were both shirtless with their pants hanging lose on their hips. Ryo stopped to look at Ueda’s naked chest, fawning over the smooth look of his skin and the pale shade of it. Ueda’s cheeks were flushed but he didn’t seem to be embarrassed; it was clear in his eyes.
He sighed softly and his eyes were half-open. Ryo looked at his lips, licking his own before taking them slowly into a kiss. Ueda gasped a little, feeling chills just being so close to Ryo.
Ryo looked at him and said, “I’ve never wanted something so badly in my life.”
It was cheesy, but Ueda felt his body quiver as the younger boy whispered them slowly. But before they continued, Ryo said something that Ueda wasn’t expecting to hear him say.
“I have to be honest with you-”
Ueda gulped, expecting Ryo to say something that would end their rendezvous.
“W-What is it?”
Ryo mumbled, “I’m a virgin.”
Ueda blinked, unsure of what he had just heard.
“I’m sorry, what?”
Ryo groaned, “I’m a virgin!”
Ueda blinked again, “I know.”
“What?!”
“I’m sorry?”
Ryo wanted to get angry but he knew it was definitely not the right time to do so. Instead he just sighed and put his hand towards his forehead.
“I’m sorry.”
Ueda smiled, “Don’t be.”
He grabbed Ryo’s neck and pulled him in for another long kiss. The two started to get things moving again, completely stripping each other naked within minutes.
Ryo had almost no idea what he was doing but knew he had to do something to make things go a lot smoother. He got up quickly and searched through Maru’s things and smiled when he found a bottle of lotion.
“What are you going to do with that?” Ueda asked, sounding genuinely confused.
“It’s for-lubrication,” Ryo whispered, trying not to giggle.
“Uh-okay,” Ueda smiled awkwardly.
Ryo walked over and climbed onto the bed. He straddled Ueda, as he poured some lotion onto his fingertips. He first went for his own dick and was going to rub the lotion on it but Ueda stopped him.
“Let me-let me do it,” he said, with a somewhat seductive look on his face.
Ueda put some lotion on his own fingers and began to rub the lotion over Ryo’s dick. Ryo’s eyelashes fluttered as he started moaning softly. Feeling Ueda’s fingers going across his member was enough to make his voice almost give out. When the other boy was done, Ryo opened his eyes and exhaled deeply. He then took some lotion and with one finger, started to loosen Ueda’s entrance up.
“Ahhh,” Ueda moaned softly. The lotion was cold but he was also very tight. Ryo’s finger slipped in somewhat easily. He realized that it would be better to insert two fingers instead, which still did not fully loosen Ueda up.
“Would one more finger be okay?” Ryo asked in a gentle voice.
Ueda tightened his lips and closed his eyes, nodding to Ryo’s question. One more finger, and Ueda felt his body go numb. He opened his eyes to see Ryo lift his hand and lick it slowly. Ueda closed his eyes again, and felt Ryo’s dick enter inside him.
“RYO!” he said at the point of climax, as he clutched the other boy’s back.
Ryo kissed him after saying, “It’s okay. I won’t hurt you anymore. I love you, Tatsuya.”
Later, Ueda and Ryo lay in bed. Their first time had been rocky at first and somewhat awkward but it ended amazingly. Ueda felt like there was nowhere he’d rather be than by Ryo’s side, his ear to the other boy’s chest, hearing the rapid beating of his heart.
Ryo sighed, and Ueda felt his chest move up and down.
“Are you okay, Ryo?”
“Yeah-it’s just-it’s so unbelievable. Yesterday, I’d resigned to the fact that I may have never seen you again and now, I’m lying in bed with you, after we had sex for the first time. It’s fucking with my mind, is what it is!”
Ueda chuckled softly.
“It is unbelievable. To think that two years ago, I was just starting this school and you were the first person here to ever speak to me. Granted some of our first conversations included you insulting me, but I-I wouldn’t have had any other way.”
“You’re really a masochist, aren’t you?”
“I resent that, you sadist you.”
Ryo laughed and kissed Ueda’s head.
Then the two stopped when they heard a noise.
“What was that?”
“I don’t know,” Ryo replied. He got up from the bed and put on his bathrobe. He walked over to the door and listened. It had been hung up again the previous night after a midnight call to the maintenance man. He looked through the peephole before sighing in an annoyed manner. He unlocked it and opened it thusly, watching as Yamapi, Toma and the rest of his friends fell down onto the floor.
“Well, well, well. Look at what we have here. A bunch of creepers in the hallway listening in on a private conversation! Tell me-whose ass should I kick first?!”
Toma got up quickly and pulled Kame up with him. Yamapi pushed Koki off him and managed to struggle up off the floor along with Maru.
“Hey, if you were willing to let us know that you guys were going to stay in the dorm all day fucking instead of going to class, we wouldn’t have had to ‘stalk you’,” Yamapi replied, sounding awfully bitter.
“Don’t start with your jealousy crap, Yamapi. I might have to show you a thing or two if you don’t keep quiet!”
“You want to mess with me, little man? I’ll use you to scrape the gum off my shoes!”
Ryo and Yamapi got up in each other’s faces and started shouting slurs at each other, as Toma and Koki and Maru tried to pry them apart. Kame just sighed and walked over to sit next to Ueda, who had a sheet covering his lower body.
“So how was it?” he asked.
Ueda started to blush and tried hard not to burst into a giggle fit.
“It was-amazing,” he smiled.
“I’m glad-I just wish I’d have been the one to take your virginity,” Kame pouted.
“I HEARD THAT!” Ryo and Yamapi and Toma shouted, simultaneously.
Koki and Maru looked at each other and said, “I think its time for dinner,” without even being shocked that they had also spoken at the same time. The pair left, not bothering to get involved with the love pentagon that was currently taking place.
Not too long after, spring had come. It was April and that meant the start of a new year, specifically the start of Ryo and Ueda’s final year in high school. It had been about three months since the two of them officially became a couple and only about two and a half months since they had become roommates again. It took about two weeks to convince Ryo’s grandmother as well as Maru and Koki to let Ueda move back in with Ryo. The headmistress was reluctant since it would cause a lot of trouble to move two boys back into their original dorm rooms; it was harder to convince Maru since he was the one who would have to move. Koki was hesitant to lose Ueda as a roommate, mostly because Ueda was a lot more hygienic than Maru had ever been.
In the end, Ryo and Ueda got their wish and were once again living together. Despite the fact that everyone knew why exactly the two wanted to be roommates again, no one bothered to bring it up. Well, almost no one wanted to.
“So how often do you guys fuck in a week?” Kame asked, before homeroom started. He and Ueda, along with Yamapi, Ryo, and in a spot of luck, Toma, Maru, and Koki were all in the same homeroom this year.
“KAME!” Ueda whispered, sounding horrified that he had been asked such a question.
“Oh come on, Tat-chan, don’t pretend like you and Ryo haven’t done the dirty since you’ve gotten together. I’ll have you know that Toma and I fuck at least three times a week-except when he has to tutor me, in which case, it’s a blowjob before we actually get down to business.”
“OH MY-I DON’T NEED TO KNOW THAT, YOU SICK PERSON!”
“What are you guys talking about?” Toma innocently asked, obviously not knowing what facts Kame was currently divulging.
“Entrance exams-for university. I was just telling Tat-chan where I was planning on going,” Kame lied.
Toma smiled, “I hope you choose Tokyo University-that’s where I’m going.”
Kame smirked, “Yeah-not a chance in hell.”
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOT A CHANCE IN HELL?!”
“I mean I don’t have the marks for that kind of school. I’d be better off going to a trade school or something. You can go to ToDai if you want-we’ll just live together and things will be fine.”
Even though Toma wanted to be mad, he couldn’t, since Kame mentioned possible future living arrangements. He just smiled and turned his attention back towards Ryo and Yamapi. Ryo turned to look at Ueda and smiled.
Ueda’s cheeks got hot, like they always did, but he still managed to smile wholeheartedly. The two locked eyes for a good thirty seconds before Kame went to interrupt it.
“You never answered my question.”
Ueda looked at Kame, still smiling, “Yeah, I won’t ever answer your question. Unlike you, I have some self-respect-and some self-control-oh and I’m not a complete slut either.”
“Yeah, sure you’re not. I’m sure you and Ryo fucked before you even came to homeroom,” Kame smirked.
“KAME!”
Kame just stuck out his tongue and turned around in his seat. Ueda glared at his best friend’s turned head and started muttering curse words under his breath.
Then the door opened, and the teacher finally walked in.
“Hello, students, how are all of you? My name is Nagase Tomoya and I will be your homeroom teacher for the next year.”
Ryo whispered to Yamapi who was in front of him.
“Don’t tell me you have the hots for this guy too. He looks like he’d probably crushed if you two ever did it.”
“SHUT THE HELL UP BEFORE I BREAK YOUR TEETH!” Yamapi said in a not-so-subtle tone of voice.
“Ah, you-Yamashita-kun, is it? I think you’d make a perfect class representative. You do know how to draw attention to yourself,” Nagase smiled widely.
Yamapi blushed and whispered, “I’m sorry.”
Ryo started snorting and giggling loudly, also catching the new teacher’s attention.
“Oh-you must be Nishikido-kun. You can go ahead and join Yamashita-kun as class representative as well. I hope that you two will work well in the coming year.”
Ryo looked utterly shocked and his head sank low before falling onto his desk.
Ueda managed to stifle his laughter but reveled in the fact that Ryo had gotten himself into trouble. Before they had gotten together, it would have been something Ueda would use against his former “enemy”; he would still use it against Ryo but in a playful and harmless way.
The day went on and eventually, it was lunchtime. Ryo and Ueda sat down next to each other, as did Toma and Kame. Even Koki and Maru were sharing some table space with one another. Yamapi sat by himself at the edge and glared at everyone.
Ryo looked at him oddly, “What’s your problem?”
“All of you! You’re all paired off-it sickens me,” he said in a dramatic tone of voice that clearly contrasted to the image he had the previous year. Ueda assumed that Yamapi’s change in personality had much to do with his rejection by Takki-sensei.
“I could just throw up at your lovey-doveyness! Even you two,” he pointed towards Maru and Koki, “don’t tell me you two are dating now!”
“WHAT?! AS IF-FAT CHANCE-STOP COPYING EVERYTHING I SAY,” Koki and Maru ended up in argument about their perfect synchronization.
“Hey, Yamashita, there’s someone to see you at the front gate,” a random classmate shouted after entering the cafeteria.
“Someone to see me?” Yamapi pointed to himself. He got up and looked at his friends before walking out of the room.
“Who’d want to visit Yamapi?” Ryo scoffed.
“Maybe he’s got himself a girlfriend!” Kame gasped.
Ueda gulped and Toma rolled his eyes.
“I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure Yamapi’s not into girls anymore-” he said giving Ueda a slight look.
“What are you looking at me for?!”
No one bothered to say anything and just continued eating their lunch. About 20 minutes later, Yamapi finally came back, looking very, very disturbed.
“Uh-what happened?”
Yamapi blinked; his cheeks were white and his eyes were wider than normal.
“Yamapi?”
“T-T-”
“T?”
“T-Takki-Takki-sensei-” he mumbled.
“What about Takki-sensei?”
“He came back. He-He came to see me.”
“WHAT?!” everyone shouted at once.
“Y-Yeah, he came to see me a-and he said that he decided to quit his job at the end of last year. It seemed he got a job at the girls’ school next door. He wanted to see me since-since now that he’s no longer working here, he’s basically free to date whomever he wants. A-And-we’re going out on Saturday,” Yamapi’s shocked expression turned into an enthusiastic one.
“WHAT?!”
“Congratulations,” Ueda said, unsure of what he was exactly congratulating Yamapi for.
“So, you and him are finally going to do it. You’re one lucky guy,” Kame chuckled.
“Hey! I’m right here,” Toma grunted.
Kame just stuck out his tongue and continued to eat.
Ueda smiled at his friends as they continued talking. The sound of the conversation and the way all of them laughed made him feel at ease. He was glad that he had made the choice to stay in Japan; it had certainly been the correct one.
Later on, Ueda was walking back from class by himself, since Yamapi and Ryo were to stay back and start their class rep duties. Toma and Kame had snuck off to do gawd-knows-what and Koki and Maru were in the library studying.
As he walked, he saw a large blond figure at the front gates. He couldn’t quite make out who or what it was but he did manage to notice the way their arms were flailing wildly.
Then he heard a voice, “UEDA-KUN!”
Suddenly, it all came back to him.
“Taguchi-senpai?”
Ueda ran over to the front gates and was shocked to find Junno there, still smiling and still very much blond. He was even more shocked to find Jin, who had been hiding behind one of the brick columns that the gates were attached to.
“How have you been, Ueda-kun?” Junno asked.
“I-I-what are you guys doing here?”
“I sure as hell don’t have a clue. Junno just randomly said ‘let’s go visit Ueda-kun and his friends’!” Jin scoffed.
“Wow, I’m just-I can’t believe you guys are here.”
“You don’t sound just shocked that we’re here. You’re shocked we’re still together, aren’t you, you little punk-”
“Jin! If you start harassing Ueda-kun, I will make sure to PUNISH you later,” Junno said with a very dominating scowl on his face.
Jin gulped and immediately backed down. When he did, Junno returned his attention towards Ueda.
“I think we should go now, before Jin starts causing trouble for you once again. Please tell your friends that we stopped by. Oh and tell Kamenashi that Jin sends his regards, right, Jin?”
Jin just mumbled something that Ueda couldn’t quite understand before Junno smacked him in the back of the head and the two started to take their leave.
“Goodbye, Taguchi-senpai. Goodbye, Akanishi-senpai. Please do your best in college!” Ueda waved happily even though Jin turned to give him the biggest glare.
That night after dinner and before they went to bed, Ueda and Ryo stood face-to-face, and only inches apart.
“Are you sure?”
“I don’t want to.”
“Are you REALLY sure?”
“Yes, Ryo, it’s a school night.”
“Are you ABSOLUTELY sure?”
“Yes, and if you ask me again, I’ll never have sex with you ever!”
“FINE! Can I at least get a kiss goodnight?”
Ueda sighed and complied. Ryo grabbed him and gave him the most forceful kiss imaginable. He didn’t let go for thirty seconds and once he did, he left Ueda breathless.
The younger boy smirked and just said, “Are you sure now?”
Ueda exhaled deeply, gave himself a couple of taps on the cheek, and inhaled again.
“I’m-100% sure. Good night!”
Ryo rolled his eyes, “Fine. Good night.”
“I LOVE YOU, RYO!”
“Yeah, yeah, I love you, too, Tatsuya. But you owe me-tomorrow-you and me-we do the dirty,” he said with a wiggle of his eyebrows.
Ueda stopped and stared at him.
“Say that again and see if anybody has sex with you-ever.”
Ryo looked hurt and Ueda took it as his cue to turn off the light. Ryo muttered to himself but was shocked when Ueda had started to crawl into bed with him.
“What are you doing?”
“Just because I won’t have sex with you, doesn’t mean I don’t want to sleep with you,” Ueda smiled in the dark.
“Huh?”
“Good night, Ryo,” Ueda laughed as he slid in closer to his boyfriend, and got ready to sleep.
“I swear, you make less and less sense to me everyday,” Ryo whispered as he put his arms around the other boy’s waist and laid down next to him.
Ueda smiled to himself. Where he was right at that moment was where he had dreamed he would forever be. In the arms of the boy he loved most in the world was where Ueda felt safest, happiest, and above all, most loved.
