Chapter 5

The principal picked up the phone and announced for his secretary to call Kame into the office as well.

“Akanishi-sensei--I--,” the principal sighed and Jin could feel his heart beat harder in his chest.

“Akanishi-sensei, I confronted you about these rumors and you told me--to my face--that you were not, in fact, involved with a student. You told me they were just rumors and that you, and I quote, wouldn’t do anything to compromise your position at this school. And now, Yamashita-san here has told me that the rumors are true and that you did, in fact, start a relationship with--Kamenashi-kun, is it?”

Jin nodded his head, his face lowered as he stared blankly at his lap. Then the door opened and Jin turned around to see Kame walking in, unaware of what was going on. But then he saw Jin and Yamapi and knew exactly what was happening.

“Oh fuck--” he muttered under his breath.

“Kamenashi-kun--please, take a seat,” the principal kindly told Kame.

Kame nodded and sat next to Jin, with his arms crossed and his facial expression showing his annoyance at the situation. Jin glared at him, thinking that Kame wasn’t showing the least bit of guilt and that bugged the hell out of Jin.

“Now--we’ve never had this sort of situation happen before but we do have a strict policy on what should be done as far as punishment goes. Akanishi-sensei--I’m sorry to say but I think we are going to have to let you go,” the principal said.

Jin opened his mouth to let out a deep sigh to show that he expected as much. The principal turned and said to Kame, “Kamenashi-kun--if you would like to--we can file a police report.”

“WHAT?!” Jin, Kame, and Yamapi all shouted at once.

“I’m sorry but in this case, since Kamenashi-kun is a minor, we’re going to have to get the police involved, as much as I hate to say it. Kamenashi-kun--I’ve already called your parents and they are on their way. I can call the police in as well but I’ll wait to see if your parents would like to press charges.”

“OH GAWD!” Jin cried, putting his face in his hands and shaking his head furiously.

Yamapi looked shocked as if he thought the most that would happen to Jin was that he would get fired.

Kame didn’t look too shocked and just said, “Don’t bother.”

“Excuse me?” the principal asked.

“My parents don’t give a shit about what happens. They didn’t press charges before and they aren’t going to do it now.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean--they’re gonna blame me, saying I seduced Akanishi-sensei and that I’m some sort of sexual pervert. It’s happened before--and I don’t expect it to be any different now. Akanishi-sensei, don’t even worry. You’re not going to jail,” Kame said.

Jin looked confused as did Yamapi and the principal.

“But what Akanishi-sensei did is illegal and I--I don’t think it’s right for us to not to press charges against him,” the principal said, not aware of the effect it had on Jin.

“The police don’t have to know--besides, it’s my fault, not Akanishi-sensei’s. I seduced him and--yeah--whatever--he didn’t do anything.”

“But he had slept with you,” Yamapi replied out of nowhere, “That right there is not moral and it’s definitely not legal.”

“Who are you again?” Kame said, looking annoyed at the stranger talking.

“I’m Tomohisa Yamashita--I’m Akanishi-sensei’s boyfriend--ex-boyfriend.”

Jin’s heart practically broke again in front of his boss and his student.

“Oh--I talked to you yesterday and--oh--oh gawd, so this is my fault even more so! Akanishi-sensei, I’m so sorry!”

“Don’t--” Jin replied, “It’s fine. I’m willing to leave without incident but please, please do not expel Kamenashi-kun. He is a good student, a bit misguided but he’s intelligent and he deserves a chance to prove himself.”

“Akanishi-sensei--” Kame gasped.

Jin stood up and forcefully said, “PLEASE! Please do not let my actions reflect on Kamenashi-kun’s record. Please let him stay and give him a chance to prove that he is worthy of this school and that he is as smart as I know he is.”

Jin bowed his head as a form of requesting. Kame smiled meekly and Yamapi just looked shocked. The principal’s forehead wrinkled as he was thinking.

“I--I really should wait for his parents to arrive before I make any final decisions. But if Kamenashi-kun is as good a student as you say he is--and if he can promise that from now on, he will not cause any more trouble--”

“I swear I won’t!” Kame said, standing up next to Jin and looking just as determined.

“Still--Akanishi-sensei, I’m sorry but we really need to have you leave. It wouldn’t be right for you to stay,” the principal said, looking like he felt guilty about firing Jin.

“I understand. My actions were intolerable and now I’m ready to deal with the consequences,” Jin said, with a disappointed look on his face.

Kame looked like he was just about to cry and Yamapi did too. The principal nodded and Jin decided he needed to leave at that moment. He left the office and gathered his things, not making eye contact with anyone, and just leaving the campus.

As he was walking, he saw a middle-aged couple dressed rather elegantly, walking around looking very lost.

“Here’s a teacher, ask him,” the woman said.

The man walked over to Jin and smiled, “Hi, I’m looking for the principal’s office--it seems our son got into some trouble and I guess we have to bail him out,” he said with a slight chuckle.

Instantly, Jin realized that they were Kame’s parents and he gulped, “The principal’s office is in that building. Make a left down the first hallway and you’ll see a door that says ‘Administration’ on it. The principal’s office is in there.”

The man smiled as did the woman who replied to Jin, “Thank you so much.”

Jin nodded and as he was walking away, he overheard their conversation.

“What a nice teacher,” Kame’s mom said.

“He’s probably the one Kazuya’s been seeing. He’s good-looking but he’s got to be stupid if he were to start something with a student.”

“Well, I’m sure it wasn’t his fault. Kazuya’s just starved for attention and no one can help it if he sets his sights on them.”

“He’s uncontrollable--I told you we should’ve sent him to that boarding school in France. It would’ve been a lot easier than dealing with him every time he gets involved with a teacher. The kid‘s a troublemaker who just can‘t deal with the fact that not everyone wants to deal with his crap.”

“Excuse me!”

The couple turned around and Jin set down the box of his things onto a nearby lunch table. He walked over to the couple, looking very annoyed and ready to raise some hell.

“Yes?” the man replied.

Jin walked over and punched Kame’s dad right in the nose.

“Oh my gawd!” Kame’s mother shouted.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” his dad replied, from the floor and holding his nose. Blood started trickling out as Jin shook his fist, trying to deal with the pain that had come with that single punch.

“Kamenashi-kun is not a troublemaker! He is not starved for attention and he certainly isn’t a hopeless case! The boy is intelligent and thoughtful and he’s more mature than any of the other students I’ve encountered at this school. He doesn’t ask for much and yet it seems like he’s deprived of so much.”

“Excuse me, just exactly who do you think you are by saying such things?” Kame’s dad asked as his wife helped him up.

“My name is Jin Akanishi and I’m Kazuya Kamenashi’s homeroom teacher.”

“You’re the one!” the pair said at once.

“Yes--yes, I’m the one who slept with your son. And you know what--I don’t regret it. At least not entirely--Kamenashi-kun got something you two probably never provided for him.”

“And what would that be?”

“Love! Attention! Respect! He deserves all of it and I can tell that you two are sure as hell in capable of providing him with that.”

“We are his parents! We love him unconditionally!”

“Oh yeah? Maybe you should teach your son about what it means to love unconditionally. Maybe he wouldn’t feel so lonely and require so much ‘attention’,” Jin replied before walking back to the lunch table and grabbing his stuff.

He left campus and never looked back, not even worrying about the consequences that might have occurred for Kame or even him, more so especially after punching Kame’s father in the face.

About just over a year had passed and after not being able to find a replacement job for the one he had lost, Jin decided to move back to where had he lived while working at the high school. He attempted moving around to different cities to see if he could find work but came up empty-handed.

Luckily for him, Kame’s parents never did press charges and Kame was allowed to stay at the school. The worst punishment Jin had received was simply being fired but of course, the reason he was fired was what kept him from getting another teaching job. He managed to work a few part-time jobs and save enough money to be able to afford to move back home.

Yamapi had since moved out of the apartment that they shared together and went on to work overseas. Jin had not heard from his former lover and it ate at him, but he was certain that it was all for the best.

As he was walking home one day, from another one of his part-time jobs, he happened to walk by the high school he had formerly worked at. School was just letting out and the students looked as energetic as always. Jin didn’t recognize anyone since his class had graduated the month before.

He let out a deep breath and continued to walk. He was walking through the park and stopped to look out over a pond. The sun was getting close to setting and the sky was lit orange. Jin sighed and continued to walk but was stopped when he heard a voice.

“Akanishi-sensei!”

Jin turned around and couldn’t believe his eyes. Sitting on a bike not too far away was Kame, himself, smiling and waving frantically. Jin turned around completely and looked completely shocked.

Kame came running and practically tackled Jin, hugging him passionately.

A little while later, the pair found themselves at a local café, drinking coffee and catching up.

“So right now I’m studying at the university,” Kame smiled before taking a sip from his cup.

“Oh really, what are you studying?” Jin asked while stirring in some cream to his cup.

“English,” Kame said.

Jin nearly choked on his coffee as he drank from it.

“W-wow, really?”

Kame nodded enthusiastically.

“I want to speak English--like you, Akanishi-sensei.”

Jin blushed a little.

“So--I never found out but what happened after I left?” he said, curiously.

“Well--as you know, no charges were pressed and I stayed at that school. Of course, it wasn’t as fun as when you were there but I still managed to make the best of it.”

“OH--wait, what happened to you and Tanaka-kun?”

“He and I broke up not too long after you left.”

“Oh I see.”

“Yeah--he’s the one who spread the rumors in the first place--apparently he saw the two of us holding hands and he told everyone he knew, about it.”

Jin gasped about it, “Don’t tell me--he spray-painted my car?”

“No--”

Jin was taken aback.

“The person who sprayed your car was his idiot of a best friend, Yuichi Nakamaru. Apparently, Nakamaru thought it’d be hilarious to vandalize your car ‘cause Koki had been complaining about us and stupid Nakamaru sprayed the word and yeah--he ended up getting suspended for it.”

“I see--and Tanaka-kun?”

“Koki didn’t get in trouble but he sure as hell wasn’t happy about it. Especially since I told him that I was going to break up with him and then I told him that I had only dated him to get back at you. Stupid should‘ve known I wasn‘t getting with him because I liked him. I mean I knew he was the one who was spreading the rumors in the first place! Of course, I had to make it worse for him by spreading a rumor that he sleep in his mom’s bed when he gets scared at night. Haha”

Jin looked disappointed, like any adult would after hearing a teenager making unnecessary trouble for someone.

“Kamenashi-kun--”

“Well, he deserved it! I doubt things would’ve turned out the way they did if he hadn’t opened his mouth!”

“But--you do remember who told Yamapi about me and you, thus resulting in my dismissal, right?”

“I--”

“I’m just kidding. No--it’s okay. I think I was better off without that job anyways--too much money and too many benefits,” Jin laughed.

Kame looked saddened and Jin took notice.

“Aw, Kamenashi-kun--I was just kidding with you.”

“I know but--even after all this time I still feel guilty for what happened to you. I should’ve never said anything in the first place.”

“It’s okay--Kame.”

“Do you regret it?”

“Huh?”

“Do you regret sleeping with me?” Kame asked, with a look of sadness in his eyes.

“No,” Jin simply said.

“What? You don’t?”

“No, I don’t regret sleeping with you. I don’t regret it as much as you don’t regret sleeping with me.”

“But--that’s because I loved--I love you. Akanishi-sensei--can I come over to your place?”

“What?!”

“Just for a little while--I kinda want to go someplace other than my dorm room now.”

“I guess--it would be okay--but just for a few hours.”

Kame smiled in the same way he had smiled the first night they were together.

They made their way to Jin’s apartment and Kame was shocked. Not because of the grandiose of the building but rather how dumpy it looked.

“You--you live here?”

“Yeah--I haven’t been making too much money since I moved away and this was all about I could afford after working so many part-time jobs. But it’s still home to me,” Jin smiled, as he stared at his apartment building.

Kame smiled, looking at Jin.

“Let’s go then,” he said to the older man.

Jin nodded and they made their way up to the building.

Once in the apartment, Kame made his way directly to the couch and patted the seat next to him. Jin looked at him weird but nodded his head in agreement and shut the apartment door behind him.

The two then sat awkwardly, next to each other, making little eye contact and chuckling nervously every once in a while.

“So--”

“So--” Jin replied.

“You know, I’m 18,” Kame smiled.

Jin just laughed and Kame responded with a pout.

“I figured you were since it’s been over a year. And--Kamenashi-kun, what’s wrong?”

“I--I never stopped thinking about you when you left. I never stopped loving you and I never will stop.”

Jin smiled and scooted closer to Kame.

“I know and I’m happy that you said that.”

Kame smiled, his cheeks turning a bit pink.

“Akanishi-sensei?”

“Jin,” Jin replied.

“Jin--I always wanted to know--did you love me?”

Kame looked reluctant to hear the answer but at the same time, he looked a bit determined to know what the answer was.

Jin exhaled deeply and looked around the room.

“You know--if it wasn’t for you, I’d probably still be living with Yamapi and I’d probably still have that job. I wouldn’t be living in this tiny little apartment and I wouldn’t be working three different jobs just to make rent.”

Kame looked scared but then Jin turned and smiled.

“But at the same time, if it wasn’t for you--I would never know what it truly meant to love someone unconditionally.”

Kame gasped, choking a bit while laughing at the same time. Jin laughed too but then he stopped and he looked at Kame.

“Kame--I love you,” he said.

Kame gasped again but then he replied with a passionate kiss. Jin held the younger man tightly as he fell back onto the couch, Kame lying on top of him.

The pair continued to kiss, just kiss. Never had Jin felt so alive and so in love and so happy than he did at that very moment. He had finally gotten a chance to do what he had wanted to do for the past year, tell Kazuya Kamenashi that he loved him.
