Maybe I ain't from around here.

Maybe Tristan Taormino was right about me being from New York. Or maybe the Chinese exchange student was right about me being from China. Or maybe the person who said I was from California was right. Or perhaps the various people who have had Ash sightings outside of the American South are right because after last night even I'm thinking I ain't from around here.

We were talking politics at work because it seems I'm work's version of the Daily Show, so I said something about we'd just pull my car into the plant and listen to the vice-presidential debate because the car radio is the only portable radio I own. So the guys said how are we going to listen to the debate on the radio and I figured they were joking and going to get a rib in on old liberal Ash when he said NPR. Well it turns out that none of them in their entire life had ever heard of National Public Radio so it only takes me the rest of the night to explain just what NPR is because saying it's sort of the PBS of radio was not getting the job done. Hell they even asked if NPR was something new.

Yea, I've wondered it some times and now I'm just totally sure that I ain't from around here. I don't know why I have these memories of growing up in the rural south, but I just don't fit the profile of the local Bubba's at all so my past must not be my past because there just doesn't seem to be any way that I could be from around here.
