I've been away for too long...

I did some serious thinking on this, and I came to the realization that the reason I no longer wanted to update is because I was focusing solely on the bad films that made it too the top of the box office charts for a while. I want to do more, and review some decent films. If I like the film, I'm not going to give away what happens in the end... Just go see the film. If this goes well, I will be updating a lot more often. So without further ado, I present my take on the new Bond film.

Casino Royale
a.k.a. "Not your daddy's Bond" or "Anyone else find Poker Championships gripping?"

Rating 7/10

I have to say that this is probably my favorite Bond film yet, and I know that die hard Bond fans are going to whine and point at Sean Connery for salvation. However, this Bond felt a little more realistic and more like a thug like in the books. This Bond has some charming points, but his main allure is that he is more dangerous than suave while the other Bonds were the other way around.

The film is almost beautiful in it's simplicity as far as the plot goes, yet the plot is space evenly with action which makes it seem more complex. The plot is about a banker, La Chiffre, who keeps money for terrorists, and invests it into stocks. He then does something illegal to effect the stock, then pulls out making a lot of cash for himself. Bond stops one of his hired goons from blowing up a plane which causes La Chiffre to lose all the money. La Chiffre then holds a Texas Hold 'em Tournament for the fabulously rich and ugly (seriously, those were some ugly dudes... Think Trump Ugly and Jerry Springer Show Fat) to win back the money or the terrorists will kill him. Bond has to win the tournament so La Chiffre will come over as an informant. See simple... I think...

Anyway, this is a great movie that keeps (some) people guessing and some cringing (in a good way).
