Please Help Me, Friendslist!

It seems that it is, indeed, true. My old ICQ account was hacked, and someone (from Russia) is now using it. PLEASE, LJ, if you have my old number on your IM list and you see this person, do me a favour and tell them to give me my account back? (On the off chance it works, either take the password yourself, hit ICQ's homepage, change it right away ( Read more... )

So, you can't add it to Yahoo huh? Well, I rarely use AIM, but I can certainly watch for the thief. How do I add to AIM?

You can't, no. But I've got a post on how to add ICQ users to AIM here. Thank you so much for keeping an eye out. I've fired an email off to ICQ proper, but I know how much help they usually are.

Done and done. I will watch when I am awake to do so. And you simply want us to request that the person either give us the password or send it to you at ladyoflorien AT gmail DOT com, right? Assuming they can understand English.

Yuppers! Thanks so much. That's pretty much it, yes. (And they know English well enough to say foul things, so be warned. Also, if they do say something abusive to you, keep a record and I'll use it to escalate things with ICQ proper. I'm trying to get ICQ to at least shut down the account if they won't give it back.)

I don't get people. I don't. I've begun to think/hope I'm not one of them. How stupid/rude/annoying could they possibly be?!

I don't get them either. -_- And I don't get why anyone would waste time/pay good money to get a low numbered ICQ account. Who the hell cares? It doesn't do anything the other accounts don't do. *rolls eyes* *growls* People, by and large, are jerks.

Is this something you need to log with someone official as a possible precursor to ID theft? Could a low numbered account be used as a part of a scam by implying that the individual/presence is a long established one? You have my deepest sympathies.
