Moroccan Pouf

Like all but the most mercilessly organized of seamstresses, I have more potentially useful scrap fabric then I know what to do with, and a serious storage problem.

Something I've considered doing since Pennsic-ish is to get a few of those Moroccan pouf chairs to double as fabric storage and handy dandy horizontal surfaces (depending on size and firmness of stuffing these poufs can be used as chairs, tables, or ottomans).

I went digging around on eBay today and while I did find some extremely reasonable leather ones that I'm still going to keep in mind, I figured I'd check the intarwebs for a DIY solution. I actually found a decidedly easy DIY version (albeit without all the nifty insets) via Apartment Therapy and I think I may take a swing at putting one together this afternoon.

I do find it extremely interesting to note that the large pouf pictured in the article is NOT put together the way she recommends. The small pouf is clearly fully pieced from eight different side sections as directed, but the large pouf is pieced from one solid piece with triangular crenelations cut into the top and bottom, which you can see by looking at the spot where the seam ends at the edge of the top.

Today I will likely do a large one the same (one big piece) style as the large one, but I think in the future I might investigate the idea of doing a solid, zipper edged bottom for better access to stored items.

This is also likely to be how I will end up storing my non-fancy garb collection, as having decorative seats scattered around the bedroom looks much nicer then laundry bags.
