Okay. So... y'know how there was a Farscape/Stargate convention recently? And you know how Ben Browder was there? And you know how he did a panel? And... well, apparently he's a fan of The Guild!
Which made me go :O and which also earned him 49083697957 cool points with me. I mean, one of my favourite actors also loves one of my favourite web series! DOOOOOD. *diez of happiness*
So I tweeted Felicia, in my state of supreme and utter happiness... and she replied!
FELICIA. DAY. TWEETED. ME.
That made my day. :)))
Heh. Oh, if any of you have NOT seen The Guild, I strongly recommend it. Each episode is like 6 minutes long. It won't take up a lot of your time! It's really really awesome. Once you watch it, you'll regret not doing it sooner. :P
Anyhow, I realised I haven't posted anything on SGU.
My opinion? Well...
Okay, so I was one of those people that was PUMPED to watch SGU's first episode. I was so optimistic about it. I mean, I was excited just getting more stargate! I miss my stargate. I was dead depressed that SG1 got cancelled, so I turned to SGA... which also got cancelled. Except, SGA got cancelled for this show. Now, when SGA got cancelled, I wasn't looking to blame anybody. I was just sad... I'd figured it was exactly like the SG1 cancellation. Stupid sci-fi channel. But... noooo! It wasn't until Armageddon last weekend, at Joe Flanigan's panel, that I heard the reasons. SGA got cancelled for SGU. Okay, so what kind of fuckery is that? Stargate Atlantis was, is an amazing show! It was getting good ratings, and everything! So... what the frell?! Why couldn't they run both shows side by side, like they did with SG1 and SGA? Why!? My gosh... I was seriously mad. Still am, actually. And the cast of SGA was treated like shit, apparently. All their ideas were shot down, well, most of them anyway. And the thing that pissed me off the most? Joe said that he'd gone to the writers (specifically Brad) and said that maybe there should be a darker side to SGA. His idea was shot down, and now... look at SGU. GAH, they just make me so mad! I don't think Joe's intention was to get us all mad, by the way, he was just answering questions. So don't anyone go hating on him...
On to the show itself!
Well, as I said before, before I was mad at the show, I was pumped! I was so excited! When I sat down to watch the first episode... and then the second... and then the third... well, I was getting a bit bored. In both SG1 and SGA, I'd fallen in love with the characters in the first couple of episodes! The only characters I remotely liked were Eli and TJ. The storylines weren't particularly good either. I mean, I get that you need to replenish your supplies... but can you squish all that into ONE episode? Please? I don't really care how long it took to chip ice off a frozen waterfall. I just want some actual storylines! Y'know?
Another thing about SGU... the lack of new alien races. I mean, I know it's only a couple of eps in, but one of the things I adore about stargate is the meeting of new alien races and cultures! Mythology is one of the things I absolutely adore, and I'm not getting any of it in SGU! Although there's a lot of sex... and a lot of making out... and a fricking love triangle... well.. a love square, if you count James and her obvious need to get back in Scott's pants.
*sigh* Stargate Universe should really just be called Universe. It's not stargate. The only thing that makes it 'stargate' is the actual stargate itself. Which also doesn't look like a proper stargate, by the way. I mean, I'm sorry if I seem too harsh... I'm just... disappointed. I wanted more stargate! I didn't get more stargate! That kind of depresses me!
Oh. TPTB? Sticking Richard Dean Anderson in every couple of episodes doesn't work. Well... okay, maybe it does. But that's mean manipulation!
My gosh, I feel so bad for the actors. I mean, they're jsut doing their job, and they're getting all this shit from some of the angry fans... when it really isn't their fault. It's the writers. Brian J Smith left twitter a while back because of all the character bashing! I felt so bad for him! :( It's not even his fault...
But... I guess SGU is a good show...ish. I'm just not as into it as I'd hoped. I'll still watch it. I just... mehh... it's not stargate.
