home at last! :) we're home, and it's been crazy. we painfully made our way home on monday, after savouring the last bite of hospital lunch (which isn't so bad... really). since then we've settled into our new routine, although it took a while. that first night was horrible. ramona has taken to sleeping throughout the day and staying awake from midnight to 3 am. and [warning: i'm going to get graphic] OH, lactation had just kicked in. when they talk about rock-hard breasts, NO ONE WAS KIDDING. seriously, it was painful. exhaustion, solid boobs, the pain of severed muscles. not a pretty picture. thank God Dave (barely) kept his head and put me to sleep. I swear, i was bawling, scared that this was a sneak peek at the rest of my life.
but life has smoothed out since then, and today was my first day on my own (with Dave going back to school) and we survived. :) i sit here typing covered in sweat, spit-up, and pee but the happiest that i've been. all the pain, all the exhaustion just disappears when she wakes up and looks at me (well, technically, she isn't looking at me yet, probably looking beyond me) with her big eyes that always look like she's thinking of something, contemplating life and her short existence. she came with a full head of gorgeous, soft hair just like her mom. she has the longest fingers and toes, which my mom takes as a sign that she's either going to be a pianist or a dancer. all i know is that she's beautiful, and it's only getting better.
more and better pictures to follow...
i've got to go pump some milk.
