so coming back to work has its perks: i met and worked with Christian Bale today (star of American Psycho and the post-production new Batman movie) as well as writer David Ayers (U-571 and Training Day). They're working on getting character development for a remake of "The Wild Bunch" where the premise is Bale plays a DEA agent who is a former Marine Recon sniper. His team in Mexico City gets hit by a terrorist attack from the same drug cartel he's fighting. So Bale, the only survivor, grabs a ex-Recon buddy and they take on the drug cartel together.
my job was to get a bunch of Recon bubbas together who saw action in Iraq so they could get into the background and culture of Marine Recon. I learned a lot but I laughed even more. Those guys have an uncomparable sense of humor to tie with their comaraderie. I think Ayers and Bale were pretty happy. the officers took him out to lunch and we had a great time. i must say, i was amazed at how professional these guys were and the fact that they were in "listening mode" the entire time -- unlike stars you see on TV who typically live for their ego and to talk about themselves. i could tell the Marines respected that and so they won points in my book.
one thing i didn't know: Bale is Welsh and has an accent you can't really notice in his films, kinda surprised me...
