I may be writing more for this fic and if I do it basically is a few months after season 2. The only background changes are that Richard and Kahlan never find out they can be together, Kahlan has hooked up with Cara, and the episodes with Denna never happened. The hot breath in her ear sent shivers down her spine; the roaming fingers stirring longings in her groin she had been denied for her whole life. For the first time, in a long time, she felt complete. Thoughts couldn't sustain her forever, and she needed action which, she knew now, he could never give her. All she had ever been taught was duty, duty to her land and it's people. For once she was going to be selfish, for once, she would have love, in all forms.
A whispered promise in her ear and a soft trail of kisses soon drove any thoughts from her head as waves of ever increasing pleasure hit her, over and over. She stifled the scream, not wanting to alert anyone in the tavern, as thrills shot through her
She thought nothing could top this, she thought she had finally tasted ecstasy, until she felt it.
Time slowed as the power grew, desperately she tried to stop it, but she was on the edge, and those thrusting fingers were sending her over it. She opened her mouth, to cry out a warning, to stop it, but it was too late.
She let out a strangled cry as the power left her, rolling through her into her lover. Thunder without sound left a bittersweet joy as she recovered from her high, only to remember her lover was lost.
Grief stuck her with an overwhelming force, drowning her. She had found happiness and thrown it all away for one moment of selfish pleasure. She felt sick, she was a monster, the woman she loved was gone forever, she had...
"I love you Kahlan," the hot sultry voice whispered passionately in her ear.
Kahlan! Kahlan, not Mistress! It was impossible, yet had to be true, kahlan clung to the hope with the desperation of a drowning man. She couldn't loose her lover, not now, not now there was a chance she was still here.
"Cara?" she breathed, her heart hammering so loud she could barely hear.
A warm face nuzzled into the curve of her neck, "Yes my love?"
Pure, undulated happiness swept through Kahlan, carrying her in its current. A grin broke across her face as she turned to the centre of her world.
"The power didn't take you, you truly love me"
A small grin tugged at the corner of Cara's mouth, "Of course I love you, why else would I be here with you?"
Bliss shone through Kahlan's features. Her joy was so great she felt she could never contain it. She wanted to run outside and shout to the world that she, a Confessor, had found love, she wanted to sing to the sun and the moon of her love; but most of all she wished to stay here, with Cara, in this perfect moment, forever.
They passionately made love, over and over, until they finally collapsed exhausted in one another's arms. They lay like that for a long while, content to lie with each other, taking pleasure in the simple luxury of being close. The soft smell of herself and Cara, intermingled into one glorifying scent permeated the air around them. Even though it was the dead of winter Cara still insisted she smelt of summer, though for Kahlan, Cara was her summer.
Then a small but most unwelcomed thought wormed its way into Kahlan's head as she groaned in frustration. Yet, at the same time she couldn't stop her heart from pounding wildly.
"We will have to tell Richard, and Zedd about us now, I know you don't want to displease your Lord Rahl, but I can't stay silent any longer! I want to be able to kiss you openly Cara, to share our love, and passion, in the sun, not the shade of secrecy!"
Cara snuggled up closer to Kahlan before murmurring her agreement. "We'll do it together, then nothing can really go wrong."
Kahlan smiled, "Yes," she confirmed, "as long as we are together forever my love."
And as they kissed deeply Kahlan found herself wondering if dreams really can become a true reality.
