Camping Trip was a blast

I left work at about 5:15 and went to the meeting point for our troop. After we finally got everything and everyone packed into two vehicles (which was quite a feat) we headed for the camp site. The theme of the District Campout was Aloha Friends so we were greeted by the Cadete Troop in the traditional Hawaiin manner. They served pizza to everyone and the girls got to make hula skirts out of white garbage bags, and some glop resembling silly putty. We headed to our tent around 9:00pm to start getting settled in for the night. If you've ever gone camping you know that it was getting quite dark at this point and you can see just a few feet beyond your flashlight. One girl started freaking out at this point so I held her hand as we walked the dark curvy path to our tent. Once there we had a night latern that we turned on so the girls get get ready for bed. Well, when we turned on the light we discovered about 10 grand daddy long legs, and 6 crickets in our tent. This of course caused 3 more girls to start crying. After we got the tent cleared out and the girls changed I finally got to climb into bed about 10:30. The girls were asleep within 20 minutes of lying down.

Day 2 started at 6am with the sun beaming through the trees straight into our tent. We had many things to do during the day. That night the girls got to experience their first campfire in which we made more pizza (I would have preferred campfire stew, but the leader had planned pizza), then we made a box oven out of boxes and tin foal and made brownies which were delicious. A few hours later around 9:30 the District Directors had planned a large campfire event where we walked into the Deep Forest and sat around a large fire and sang songs, roasted marshmellows, and made S'mores until 11pm. That was my favorite part of the whole trip. We got back to our tent around 11:30 and the girls were so tired they hardly even noticed the bugs. They were asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow.

Sunday we got up early and started packing up and had a few more activities to go to then went home around 12. All-in-all it was a wonderful weekend, and I'll be going again at the end of the month for training. The next one will be better because it will only be adults, and ones who are very interested in camping.
