Just look at this...
http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/2011/04/06/joe_wright_waiting_confirm_saoirse_ronan_james_mcavoy_anna_karenina/# Someone has divined my innermost thoughts and is answering my prayers - Benedict Cumberbatch and Jude Law to appear together in a period drama, and it’s Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina!
Read it decades ago and moved it onto the ‘must re-read’ pile a year or so ago. No more incentive needed now to get to grips with the novel again. Nor any worries about who’ll go to the cinema to see the film with me when it’s released. If James McAvoy and Keira Knightley are involved, my daughter will be first in the queue. :-)
With Tom Stoppard writing the script, my hopes are high. In the meantime, as well as the novel, there are a multitude of previous film and television adaptations to consider. I seem to remember the 1977 BBC version, starring Nicola Paget and Eric Porter. I didn’t watch the series in 2000 with Helen McCrory. Can’t think why, but I missed so many things due to my children when they were younger that it actually ceases to surprise me any more. :-))
