Captive Prince, Book 1 time line.

Jun 11, 2009 20:57

When I read an outstanding story, I always have the burning desire to create a time line so I can see how people and events interlink. I've done one for The Captive Prince Book 1 and here it is. Poke me if I’ve missed something.

Warning: Being a time line, there are spoilers ahead.

A wonderful reference! I didn't realise the action of book one took place in less than a month. I wonder how pregnant Margaret is?

Freece is such a master of dense/spare writing, so much happens in such a short book! I'm reading another slavefic WIP that's at about 60,000 words (same length as CP) and all that's happened so far is that the slave has arrived and been shown around the house! LOL.

An aside: You might want to throw a spoiler/speculation warning on the post. I know it seems redundant what with this being a timeline :) but esp the 'he knows' speculation might sspoil if people haven't gotten to that idea already. :) (assuming it's true, which, of course it is!) ;)

Tis done.

I suspect Margaret is 4 - 5 months because Damen hadn't noticed before he was ousted from court.

Which fic are you reading?

It was called (I think) Seesaws and Butterflies, or something like that. It was..... sort of light, fluffy, submissive slave with tragic past, (not really a dynamic I like) of course one dimensional compared with CP (isn't everything?), but a slightly... cute? ... flavour that made me keep reading. But when I checked to link you, I found that the writer http://cf33.livejournal.com/ had deleted her journal. Ack! :)

No worries.

I'm revising my estimate of how far Lady M is. We don't know how long Damen was out of it, both in Akielos and on the trip to Rabat, so I think anywhere between 5 -7 months. Either way the sprog will be born by the time Damen gets anywhere near the capital.

Thank you: this is wonderfully helpful, because "posting/reading time" is so different from "CP story time" that it makes me forget that the characters are acting and interacting within a very compressed time frame (which gives them much less leisure to think things over and to speculate about motivation, etc. than we readers have!)

I started doing this when I was reading another WiP that had longer periods of time between updates. I found it stopped me forgetting the main thrust of the story.

This is great - really helpful. What a three weeks for all concerned! Damen's head must be in bits...

I don't know about the 7th day being a day of rest, poor Damen sees a lot of action on the 7th, 14th and 21st days. It takes him a week to get over it!

Methinks his back is going to be sore under the weight of the extra clothes and leather body armour. *winces*

Perhaps it takes Laurent a week to think of each new torment?

Damen will have been brought up tough but Laurent does love his double-edged "favours" - Damen is out of his cell but every move must be agony. I can imagine Laurent watching for the tiny details of Damen's changing levels of discomfort, knowing just where to prod and how hard. Heightened awareness and all that.
