Captive Prince, Book 1 time line.
When I read an outstanding story, I always have the burning desire to create a time line so I can see how people and events interlink. I've done one for The Captive Prince Book 1 and here it is. Poke me if I’ve missed something.
Warning: Being a time line, there are spoilers ahead.
Day 1: Afternoon - meets Laurent and, during the night, both Laurent and the Regent come calling.
Day 2: Afternoon - drugged at the baths and put into ‘the ring’ with Govart. Intrigues Laurent by refusing to have sex with a child - 13/14 year old Nicaise.
Days 3, 4, 5 and 6: Damen is left alone by Laurent.
Day 7: Unfettered, naked! Damen attends naked! Laurent in the bathing room. Tension, amongst other things, thickens between them, leading to the infamous double flogging.
Days 8 - 13: Damen is attended by a physician and a bevvy of servants as he begins to recover from his flogging. I wonder what Laurent does during this week?
Day 14: The Regent returns and visits Damen with Councillor Audin and the Ambassador.
Damen is summoned to court, looking like an Oscar statue, and the Regent publicly censures Laurent by stripping him of "Varenne and Marche…, along with all troops and monies that accompany them."
Laurent butters up Audin in the gardens, and then gives Damen a blow job by proxy. Damen meets and talks to Akielon slave Erasmus, witnesses his mistreatment and rape by Govart.
Day 15: Damen is returned to his usual room in the morning and then moved to another within Laurent’s section of the palace.
The Patran delegation arrives.
At sunset, Damen requests to see Laurent.
Day 16: Just before dawn, Laurent visits Damen and receives his offer of obedience in return for the safety of the Akielon pleasure slaves.
Day 17: Evening - Damen accompanies Laurent to the 2nd banquet, meets Torveld and refuses to spy for the Regent.
Torveld meets and falls for Erasmus, Laurent gets one over on Nicaise and Damen discovers just whose pet Nicaise is.
Day 18: Damen mets Torveld to discuss the treatment of the Akielon slaves. The court goes boar hunting. Laurent, for some reason, rides his horse to death. Damen spends time with Erasmus and discovers, to his amazement, that Laurent went to see Erasmus prior to the banquet the night before.
Day 20: Night - the failed assassination attempt. Damen saves Laurent’s life and escapes via the flogging area.
Day 21: Just before dawn - Damen runs into Govart and is captured by the palace guard, but saved from death in the alley by Jord, heading the prince’s guard.
Laurent lies about the assassination attempt and defends Damen’s actions to his uncle, earning himself a trip to the disputed border region for his trouble.
Damen requests to see Laurent and, by late afternoon, gets a visit from the Regent, followed quickly by Laurent. Laurent later reveals who is behind his attempted murder. Damen insists on going with Laurent to Delfeur. Laurent refuses.
Day 22: Damen spends the day alone stewing and listening to the preparations of Laurent’s household for the coming trip.
Day 23: Damen is outfitted for accompanying the Prince to Delfeur, learns Govart is to be captain of the guard and that he - Damen - will sleep in Laurent’s tent.
The Regent attends the public sending off of the heir to the throne.
And there we have it , just over 3 weeks of action, inaction, plots and counter plots. Roll on Book 2!
