31 Days of Horror: The Slit-Mouthed Woman

Not to be confused with Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman. Also not to be confused with the actual Japanese urban legend of the Kuchisake-onna, since neither film really had anything to do with it, to my disappointment.

So.  Putting this behind a cut.

I sat through two boring sex scenes before I realized this was a pink film. (Well, actually, I skipped the second one. I mean, it was ten minutes of nothing but naked bodies slapping together, and it wasn’t even interrupted by a ghost.) For those of you who are not aware, pink films are Japanese softcore porn. (They rarely involve tentacles, if you’re wondering. That’s erotic anime, which is different.) The distinctions between pink and American-style porn are that, due to Japanese censorship laws, they have to find creative ways to avoid showing genitals or pubic hair. They’re also plotty and often quite artistic, and directorial creativity means that, at least in the ones I’ve seen, the tiny budgets barely show.

Yes, I watch plotty Japanese porn, what of it? The first one I ever saw was Maid-Droid, which Netflix so didn’t advertise as pornographic, and by the time I realized what I was watching, I had been sucked in by the plot. Which was actually pretty upsetting. Not the part about the old man in love with his sexbot, that was sweet. But the theme of the movie was, “Asexuals and robosexuals are destroying Japan by not making babies, and also every man wants a sex slave to dominate and every woman wants [something triggery]
a robot dog rapist.” By which I mean a robot dog that will rape her, not a robot that rapes dogs
.

…it was engaging, though! And the lady cop lead in what I still believe to have been the main story was a great character until the [triggery part]
robot dog raped her into traditional Japanese femininity
. Oh, God.

Anyway, as for this movie, I can’t believe Japan made a porn about society and the media’s harmful effect on female body image.  That is awesome!  Thanks, Japan.

I enjoyed the sex scenes that were interrupted by the ghost.  She was scary!  But I don’t quite understand what happened to the victims.  Also, a lot of this is rapey.  But the actors seem to be enjoying it a lot more than any American porn star I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and the ending was so obvious.

Overall, I found this more enjoyable to watch than Carved.  And I think it looks better, too.

My rating: 3/5
