First Day of School

Let me say a secret: I LOVE Southern.
I had my history class this morning, and the teacher has a half-buzz-cut and I was startled, STARTLED to find out she has two children, and she loves American history. Coincidence that she teaches it. She talks about history being a performative act to freshmen who can barely drool facts into plashets of notebook paper. Yes. I said it.
Also German, where the teacher insists we keep both feet on the floor--to ensure we don't get too relaxed--and uses "grapple" in class. With her German accent, it comes out "grrrrrrapple!" Doesn't Snapple have a flavor like that?
I could go without living at home, and without the $95 (EACH?!) books, but this is so unexpectedly pleasant. I feel like maybe I COULD actually have a good two years here. Do I speak too soon? Maybe. I'm probably more optimistic because I'm dressed well. That shouldn't change things, but it does. I'm honoring my two minutes in Brooklyn with a true Hipster ensemble. Although I dislike the Hipsters. Anything with -sters on the end. Excepts maybe MONSTERS. So maybe not anything against -sters, but rather against hip-? But I like hippies. Words aren't my thing.
I need so much persistence, I need energy. I need to do those things I wanted to do and then didn't. I don't know how that's going to work out. Mmm, state school. Through the window in this computer lab, I can see people SITTING IN THE GRASS. On the "QUAD"--HA! It's like a real person school!
