Somehow the word "meager" comes to mind with regards to today, but I'm not quite sure why. I'm pretty sure I'm getting sick. I had a sore throat in metal shop and thought it might be the fumes, but now I'm pretty sure it's just my being sick. In metal shop I also maneged to be a dumb shit and give myself a very mild flash burn. It really wasn't any worse than looking at a piece of burning magnesium, which I've done, but it wasn't intentional this time so it scared the living hell out of me. You see spots, you know? Only for a minute or so, though... no real harm done, but I keep expecting my eyes to start hurting just because. By tomorrow I'll have forgotten. At any rate, I passed my first weld. Huzzah for melting things!

I escaped from school at a reasonable hour today to go visit OSU, where I was scheduled to meet with the pattern making teacher. I was a little disillusioned, I guess would be the word... the fashion department there focuses mainly on learning to design things for mass-production, which means no fancy, complicated frills. Also a bunch of nonsense about the "why" of fashion, and "how" you design things. That much was expected, I suppose... I expected that "apparel design" meant learning to design AND construct clothing, but apparently the construction bit has been completely palmed off on other countries. But that's what I really wanted to do, so now I'm thinking of dropping apparel design from the list of things to do and going for Bespoke Tailoring, which is what I really want. I find the prospect of making a suit that fits like you were born to wear it wretchedly exciting. I think it'd be a grand job.

But yeah... while the woman was talking I was thinking about how I felt a little like passing out and how I should just go to the UO and double major in art and chemistry, maybe focusing on green chemistry, and then go to graduate school for tailoring or more art or art conservation. A tailoring apprenticeship, perhaps. Anyway, that's what's up.
