The quest for the treasure has heated up, and in doing so it has frightened me into not having posted for the past two weeks. It is nearly safe to reveal the events of my last two days in Atlanta and the remarkable clue that amazingly and coincidentally led me right back to Santa Barbara! I cannot say presently what this is yet because I need to keep on the move, but rest assured that the treasure exists and that the truth in the matter is quite stranger than any fiction.

I have to get back to working on job stuff. It looks like the person from whom I was trying to get a recommendation letter regarding research is probably not going to write it, so I'm scrambling to ask others who have some knowledge of my work. This is a little difficult because I haven't published anything yet and haven't really talked with too many people about what I've done. I think things should be ok, though my stomach is knotted. I've asked someone else to write one, and hopefully it will work out.

Now I just need to get back to work as soon as I extricate myself from this conversation. Someone I know sat down in front of me a half hour ago, and my polite hints seem to have been unnoticed. I think the time for politeness has expired.
