For those who are interested in why i'm going to live abroad for a year and how I got this great oppertunity : ) ;
It all began with Rotary International. that's a, well let's call it "club" who are giving teenagers the chance of their lifes. they support those teenagers regarding money and make sure the teenagers get a save place to stay in the country where they will be living for a year.
The exchange works two ways, I'm going to live abroad for a year, but there's also going to live here for a year.
Well, I heard about that club about a year ago, and got immidiatly excited! well ofcourse, who wouldn't? haha!
so I wen't to two or three meetings, at those meetings there were some teenagers, who just came back from their journey, talking and explaining to us how it's like. at that point I was 100% sure ; I wanted to do that too!
so I wen't to talk to the people who lead the Rotary Club at Texel, where I live. and I signed up!
I had to fill in some papers and tell stuff about myself. also I had to fill in our first 3 country choices. there was a list of countries you could choose from, and believe me almost every country OUTSIDE Europe was on it.
My choices were; 1. Japan. 2. Taiwan. 3. Thailand.
Because well, I love Asia! and those were the only three countries in Asia on that list.
that was all in the beginning of this year.
When I signed up, I went with the rotary club texel to a meeting somewhere in the netherlands. there was a huge kind of market, where teenagers who went away for a year and just came back, were trying to "sell" their country. it was lots of fun! but those teenagers couldn't bring me to choose their country, cause my decision was already made for sure! haha. but it was cool to talk to those teenagers and I also met a boy who went to Japan and a girl who went to Thailand there :)
and we got a lot of information from the "presidents" of the rotary club in the netherlands (you have rotary clubs everywhere in the world)
Last weekend (Saturday 29 October 2011) there was a big selection day in Woerden, and believe me, I was dead nervous! haha
I went there with 3 other girls from Texel, they also signed up. when we came there we met all the teenagers who want to go abroad for a year, and they are all so nice and awesome!
For the selection we had to do three subjects, so that the rotary club could test us.
First, for me, was the discussion group. I was with about 6 others and the rotarians (name for the members of the rotary club) threw some tough topics at us which we had to discuss with each other. I was very nervous cause I never discussed like that before and I didn't learn that in school. but in the end I think I did OK and some people also said I did OK so its OK haha!
after that I had the personal interview. this time I was alone, ofcourse, with 3 rotarians. they asked me questions about my choices and about everything pretty much haha! in the beginning I was afraid to say something wrong but when the time went by I started to feel more comfortable : )
after that I had the last subject, which was with 6 other people again and 3 rotarians, we talked about what to take with you when you're going away and about some more stuff. it was a pretty relaxing talk : )
The next day, Sunday 30 October, we were going to hear if we passed the selection day! if you passed it meant that you're going abroad for a year for sure!
and guess what? I PASSEDDDDD :DDDD
haha i'm still so happy about it!
well that was pretty much it. (lol wow it is pretty muchooo)
by the way, this is going to be my journey-blog when i'm abroad, so that my friends and family can read what i'm doing there ;D
