"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the internet."

Me and ma went over to Best Buy today to look at new computers. We were originally considering getting the installation disc for an operating system, but:
  1. They only had Windows 7. No XP Media Center Edition, not even just plain XP. This is because, by definition, it's considered an outdated operating system, and computers are no longer manufactured with this system as the default.
  2. An operating system disc by itself ran from $150-200 each. That's almost a third of the cost of most of the computers we saw there.
So we decided it would probably be more frugal to just get a new computer, since a copy of Windows 7 would most likely not run at all on an outdated computer model (read; my borked computer that I got back in August 2005.)

So after some deliberation, I've invested an 18-month payment plan on an HP 6654y, which goes on sale at the store tomorrow (it's literally a brand-new model, and won't even be on the shelves until tomorrow). It's custom-built to handle lots of photo/video editing, and has 4 GB of memory (in comparison, my old HP Pavilion had just 1 GB). More details once the thing is bought, up and running tomorrow.

The only thing is, since this thing is brand new, it's expensive, just shy of $600. So instead of paying it all up-front, we decided to break it up into roughly $30 monthly payments over the course of 18 months. This way, it won't take too much out of my "new car fund", And I can still provide ma with the $300-some paychecks I give her every week.

It's not a laptop, either, by the way. It's a desktop (a computer "tower"). I, unlike most people, just don't enjoy how laptops work. I don't like the flat keys and I don't like the flat "mouse" panel that sometimes clicks on shit I didn't want to click on. Besides, I just got a new plushy office chair as one of my birthday presents, getting a laptop would kind of defeat its purpose. X3

I'm contemplating the idea of finding a decently-working ROM of Pokemon Black or White (still waffling on which version I want), and downloading it to my AceKard 2 so I can play it on my DS Lite. However, to my knowledge there are currently no ROMs available that run smoothly, or any that exist without the anti-piracy "devices" on them. I'm also not sure if I want to cave in and get the "game" now, or wait until it's released stateside in Spring 2011. Then again, I caved and got the ROM of Soul Silver, and that didn't affect my anticipation for it in March earlier this year. I... I dunno. Still contemplating.

Also, anyone know where to get mp3s of the music from Black and White? Right now it seems like my only option is ripping the music off of YouTube videos via YouTube Downloader. Nothing available on Galbadia Hotel yet, sadly.
