Jack and Ianto walked in silence, heading across sheep covered hills. They had been walking for well over an hour, Jack far away in his own world. Ianto watched him, concerned, but left him to think.

Finally they stopped under a large oak. Jack walked up to it, running his hands over the bark reverently to the point where Ianto almost felt he should give them some privacy - or maybe a room!

"Ianto," whispered Jack, the wind almost snatching his choked voice away. Ianto hurried over, placing a hand on his partner's shoulder. "I want you to meet my family."

Ianto stared at Jack dumbstruck. "Uh, I know you have mixed species DNA, but even you don't have that much wood."

"I planted this tree with the Doctor. He procured the sapling for me. In my time each family had a tree where their remains were scattered when they died. The tree would absorb the nutrients, take a part of each family member into it. This contains the souls of my parents, grand parents and many generations before them." He broke off, rubbing his eyes.

"Hello," whispered Ianto, "I never though I'd get a chance to meet any of you"
