The most masochistic type of translation is a faithful rendition of a song preserving both its rhyme scheme and metre. "Cheap, fast and good: pick any two" applies to this lyrical troika as well; usually faithfulness is the first thing to go. But I think I did a pretty good job below, with a minimum of spackle.
