Bad news; saying good-bye

Apr 16, 2009 11:43

I went to the doctor to get the results of my kidney stone analysis. The bad news? Things I must omit from my diet:
1. tofu (I've been a vegetarian since 1987!)
2. chocolate (giving this up is going to be difficult, if not damn-near impossible!)
3. caffeine (I've already cut waaaaay back on my coffee intake but this is no TEA or soda!)
4. nuts (I eat nuts just about every damn day!)
5. salt (I'm not a chronic "salter" so this should be the easiest with which to comply.)
Lesser evils:
6. kiwifruit (I'll sure miss my fuzzy, little, green friend - sniff, sniff.)
7. rhubarb (My favorite pie - especially with strawberries!)
8. spinach (I can live without this!)
9. beer (A nice, icy cold one on a hot day....buh-bye)
10. beets (I'll gladly stay away from this!)

My fluid intake needs to improve considerably but not in the form of soda. Coca-Cola is not a necessary item of diet. No one will suffer any detrimental effect by abstaining from Coke. Phosphorus intake due to consumption of soft drinks might lead to osteoporosis. Phosphate-based soft drinks have been proposed as a contributor to kidney stones, however high calcium intake is not the major factor contributing to increased risk. I've been banished to drinking Calorie-free, Crystal Light lemonade...wish me luck!

welcome to my hell, dietary restrictions, renal calculus
