Between his natural connection to her as her brother and his Jagan eye, Hiei had a very serviceable "Yukina is in danger" sense; at the moment, it was blaring like a siren.

Naturally, it would have to be the one night that Hiei wasn't in the park already. He headed for the park, moving so quickly that he was hardly visible to most, intent on one thing only: finding Yukina and getting her to safety.

When he finally found her, he practically stumbled to a stop, in too much of a hurry to exhibit his usual grace. The sight of her made his vision go fuzzy around the edges for a split second--she was covered in blood--

"Yukina, what happened?" he put one hand on her arm to steady her as he sniffed at the blood on her clothes, not bothering to hide his concern. Most of it smelled human, but...

"I--" For a moment, she was at a loss for words. Tears started welling up in her eyes. She was shaken, and now she was safe, but it was still frightening to look back on. The only coherent thing she could think to say right away was, "It's not my blood."

"I thought not," Hiei said as he tried to determine what he should do with his free hand. It probably wasn't the best thing to say, but Hiei had never been very good with social niceties.

He finally settled for giving her an awkward pat on the shoulder. "Please don't cry. We'll go to Kurama's apartment and you can tell me there."

He pulled on her arm, gently, trying to get her to walk with him.

No matter how comforting Hiei was trying to be, asking her not to cry was one of the worst things he could have said right at that time. She stopped in her tracks as the tears started to fall, then promptly clung onto Hiei in a tight hug, as if him being unable to see the tears would somehow make him miss that she was, in fact, crying. The fact that her tears solidified into beautiful spherical hiruseki stones before hitting the grass with the dull thudding noise of marbles being dropped didn't exactly help to conceal that fact, either.

"I'm sorry," she sniffled after nearly thirty seconds had passed. "You just asked me not to cry and then..."

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.

"I was just so scared. She wasn't like that when I met her and she calmed down after I covered her in ice...but she didn't remember ever meeting me."
