Hank looked over his glasses at Lyra as she entered.

"Good day to you, Ms Silvertongue. And how are you feeling today?"

Hank smiled as he sensed the reticence in Lyra's voice, putting on his most reassuring air.

"Strictly routine, I assure you. the lab computer will give you a scan, very non-invasive, and we would like to take a blood sample as well."

He hoped that the large MRI-like machine did not look too imposing.

Hank indicated a small room in the corner of the lab. "You'll find a gown to change into in there. I'll be at the console and have everything ready to go when you come out."

Hank wandered over to the terminal.

"Now. Just lie down on the table, and the scanner will do it's work. Everything is ready to go when you say you're ready."

Hank fired up the machine, and watched the readout as it ran through its scans. Musculatory, skeletal, cardio, endochrine... all systems seemed to check out all normal.

"Everything seems fine and dandy, Ms Lyra. Now if you'll let me take a quick blood sample, just a couple of ounces, then we'll be all over bar the candy."

Hank moved around the console, picking up a slim metal cylinder about the length of a pen. It was a blood drawer of his own fashioning.

McCoy walked up to Lyra and positioned the tip of the syringe at the vein in the crook of her elbow.

"And how are you finding the everything at the institute at the moment? This isn't any part of the test, but I'm curious. Most of the people here have quite the shared history, or at least parts of it. Do you feel you're integrating with the other students and teachers?"

This question was, in the main part, to distract the patient while the needle pricked the skin, but Hank was curious. There were precious few at the institute without some common background with the others, and it was always good science to get opinions outside of one's own viewpoint.

"Fascinating." Hank said as he took the now full instrument from Lyra's arm and used a small bandage to fix a cotton ball over the puncture wound.

"And this creature. He is attached to you in some way, I gather?"
