Exam Room 1 | Dr. Jean Grey fireintheflood January 31 2010, 03:17:33 UTC

The prospect of being around this version of Jean Grey in particular was guaranteed to be strange--after Wolverine, she was the first X-Man proper Dust had met, and she had respected her a good deal--but if she had to take off any of her outerwear during the check-up, the female doctor was the obvious choice. She narrowly kept herself from knocking on the door before entering, her expression tentative as it ever was.

"Dr. Grey?"

Jean turned from where she was standing by the diagnostic computer and smiled. "Hello Sooraya, come on in."

She forced a smile, albeit an awkward one, and walked fully inside the room, then paused before speaking again.

"Should I sit down?"

"Yes, actually, please lie back on the exam table there. This will only take a couple of minutes." She could sense the girl's discomfort and she tried to reassure her with a gentle hand on her arm. "I don't even have to touch you."

She lay down on the table, pausing beforehand to take off her niqab and fold it loosely in her hands. WHICH NONE OF THESE ICONS INDICATE, but that's okay!

Jean smiled, gently taking the girl's wrist in her fingers to determine her heart rate herself while the machine did its work. It would tell her the same, of course, but it was a gesture she had always felt comforting when being examined herself. "Just relax. I'll have you fill out some details afterward, but you can tell me now if you've had any recent injuries or illnesses."

She nodded, turning her head gently to the side to look at the machine, and tried to recall whether anything important had happened. It was actually a little surprising on some level that she hadn't been truly injured in such a long time, given the constant chaos after M-Day, but things were different here.

"There is nothing that I can think of," she said, for the sake of completeness. "My shoulder was dislocated shortly before I arrived here, but that was... three months ago? And Dr. McCoy reset it."

Jean could see the stress to the muscle in the girl's shoulder but it had healed very well, as mutants were wont to do and she shrugged, the scan having completed and she smiled down at Sooraya. "All of your vitals are well within normal range and I see no injury or illness that requires treatment."

She stepped around the end of the table, extending her hand to help the girl sit up. "Just a little bit of paperwork and you'll be done."

She couldn't avoid Jean forever. Sooner or later they'd run into each other, or Scott would just... do something to throw them together. Or fate would, and she wasn't sure which would be worse.

So she decided to bite the bullet and despite the late night she'd had before, she headed to the clinic.

"Dr. Grey?" She knocked on the door softly. God, that sounded strange.

Oh boy, it's happening. fireintheflood January 31 2010, 04:38:58 UTC
She looked up and opened the door wider telekinetically at the sound of the girl's voice. "You can come in," she said, filing away the previous chart and picking up a fresh one. It was going to be a busy morning.

Entering the room, Rachel entered cautiously.

"Hi, I'm Rachel. We... spoke briefly when you arrived?"

Jean looked at the girl a moment, a slight frown creasing her features. She looked... familiar.

"Yes, of course." She stood and offered her hand. "I'm sorry we haven't met before, I've been a bit... overwhelmed, I guess you could say."

"Totally understandable, Jean." She shook the doctor's hand and tried not to stare. Jean, this was Jean, but not... and damn that hurt. More now that she was standing here with her.

"I mean, waking up one day in world where people look just like home only... aren't? I totally empathize." After all, if anyone got that one, it would be Rachel.

"Yes, it's a bit unexpected," she said with a grin before handing her the clipboard on her desk. "I'll need you to fill this out, I'm afraid. I was doing it for a while but then started getting behind. But I'll set up the table so that the exam can begin as soon as you're done."

It was driving her slightly mad, looking at this girl who ... her eyes widened just as she turned away. She had to be one of the children Scott mentioned. One of her children.

Rachel buried herself in the clipboard, filling out the appropriate lines... except she completely stalled on the section about family history. And the part about her name. And her living relatives. Actually, she was trying to find something she could fill out so she missed it when the light-bulb went off in Jean's head.

Tapping the pen on the clipboard, she finally looked up. "You know, Hank's already got most of this stuff on me, do you really need me to fill it out?"
