Billy is generally a deep sleeper but over the years, he's gotten used waking up when there a unexpected noises in the room with him -- a habit formed by the war and by the fact that, since arriving, he's only slept alone for a handful of nights.
So tonight, despite being in the deepest part of his REM cycle, he wakes when the sound of rustle and someone moving around in the room becomes enough to worm its way into his subconscious and rouse him. He lifts his head, looking blearily for the clock on the bedside table. It informs him that this is a ridiculous hour for anyone to be up, so he turns his head in the exact opposite direction to see if Teddy is there. Which, of course, he's not.
"Ted?" Billy asks mushily, rolling onto his side and rubbing at one of his eyes with the heel of his palm.
