Rikki was walking around, partially to get a better idea of the City's layout so she could come up with a better patrol route, and partially because she was bored in the apartment. Thom and her had moved all of Andrew's stuff out of her new room, but it still didn't feel like it was hers yet. And until she got paid, which would be awhile since she hadn't even started work yet, she couldn't do anything to make it feel more like home.

Thus, walking around.

Tommy wasn't walking anymore, considering whether he would try out the restaurant before him or not. Didn't they have to wear those fancy-looking uniforms over there? They'd probably just be weirded out by his hair (but totally not his attitude) first, so "Screw that."

There was a quick reflex (and a funny expression to tag along) the moment he turned, almost bumping into a businessman on a hurry. A quick exchange of snide commentaries on both parts, and he was back on his track, grumbling under his breath. It was with a little relief that he realized the girl at the end of the street was a familiar face he was actually not dreading to recognize during this ordeal.

"Hey, Ri!" He shouted out with a wave, speeding over to her discreetly just enough to leave people wondering where the sudden rush of wind had come from.

Tommy did not actually take her by surprise, which made her happy. She was getting back on her game if she had managed to notice a speedster. She grinned at him. "Hey, Tommy," she said, dragging out the "hey" in a way that would have made her grandma tell her that "hay is for horses."

Rikki looked him up and down, noticing the nice clothes. "You look good. Nice. Professional," it was actually sort of bizarre to see him wearing an actual button-down shirt, but good bizarre, not Oh Jesus Christ the squirrels have mutated and have a taste for human flesh bizarre.

Tommy raised his eyebrows, quickly looking down at his clothes a little awkwardly before straightening himself up again, clearing his throat. "Uh, yeah, thanks. I guess." He felt anything but comfortable in such a formal wear, even if it was adequate enough for somebody his age. He scratched his temple and gave her a smile, showing a bigger piece of the confidence he was known for. "How's it going?"

She shook her head at him, eyes wide and amused. "Seriously. It's snazzy," she said, putting her hands in her pockets. She returned his smile with a bright, wide one, the one she used to use for photo ops, but it gradually relaxed into a more natural one.

"Pretty good. I'm trying to figure out a patrol route so that I can end up at the 24 hour pizza place before I head home," It occurs to her that, hey, patrolling alone is really, really not safe and pretty much numero uno in Steve's big superhero book of things not to do, but she's been doing it for a year and she's sort of in the habit now. She nods at him. "How's the job hunt going?"

Somehow, the mention of a pizza place reminded him of that scooter he'd seen pass by him, and his mind went back to Katie's suggestion for a job. There was a mental groan while his expression went from the smile to a "Meh." After a shrug, he straightened the papers he was holding in one hand (and switched them over to the other) and rubbed the back of his neck afterwards. "Went to three places so far. Can't really decide which one I wanna work in the least." There was notable sarcasm in his voice, but it quickly changed back into a casually charming tone.

"Thanks for the help, by the way. I'm still trying to figure out where I'm gonna take you for that dinner."

Rikki was about to suggest that he could ask around at the clinic, but she still didn't know if people were actually going to be paid to work there, first of all, and also Tommy was probably not the most soothing bedside presence. "Tell me about it. Before I got here, I was a dishwasher," she said, and gave him a sideways glance as he defaulted to charming.

"It's no problem. Seriously. I owe you guys," she smiled at him in a way that made her nose wrinkle. "I'm gonna be living on ramen and kraft macaroni and cheese until I get paid, so as long as it's not broke college kid food, I'll love it."

Tommy gave her a voiceless chuckle, rolling up his papers and crossing his arms. "Let's just hope Mrs. A doesn't catch you saying that." He glanced quickly at a person passing by, then returned his attention to her. "But hey- you don't owe me anything. They're the wonder team, remember?"

"Besides, I want to." There was a pause. It could've been an awkward one, but he didn't take it that way. It wasn't common for him to get uncomfortable moments with girls; somehow he managed to stay between the lines of flirting and being friendly (unless he decided to be completely blunt about it) and keep rolling with it, whichever side it swayed to. "When 're you free, anyway?"

"If you say so," Rikki shrugged. "Besides, you're part of the wonder team," she elbowed him. Which made her seriously jealous, but she didn't let it show. Mainly she was just envious of anyone who had a place to belong.

She looked at him, a little surprised. "Good. Great. I'm glad you want to," she was really not in the right frame of mind for anything serious. But a little harmless flirting was fun. "I'm free all this week. I was thinking about helping Thom out at the clinic, but I'll make time for you," Rikki flashed him a smile. "And next week I'll be free any time after five."

"Me? I'm just the token bad boy." He said this with an arched eyebrow and a somewhat ambiguous smile, waiting for her to finish answering his question. "Cool. I'll let ya know when I think of a place."

There was a short pause before he unfolded his arms and looked down, groaning. "Man, I can't believe I still have to look around for a job."

"See? That's not so bad. You're the cute one that probably all the Young Avengers fangirls have a crush on," she raised an eyebrow at him. "And you do that. I'm looking forward to it."

"It's not that bad," Rikki shook her head and rolled her eyes. "You have an awesome résumé, you look good, and you can be charming when you want to be. You'll find something no problem."

Tommy couldn't help but smirk at that. "Not gonna argue with you on that point." Saying this made him wonder how Nico would've reacted to hearing it, but only because he'd somehow grown accustomed (or come to expect) to being the number one trigger of her feminist wrath.

He'd never figure that girl out.

Rikki was definitely different, and much nicer- not to mention she actually seemed confident enough to flirt back. "Too bad you aren't hiring." Tommy laughed a little bit, scratching the back of his neck.

"So hey- where are you headed?

"Well, if I ever start up a business, I'll remember you," Rikki said, shaking her head. "You'd make a great gopher. Fastest coffee ever."

Rikki looked around. "Well, the company's nice, so wherever you are, I guess. I'm just trying to scope out a patrol route," company was good. Company took her mind off of her more or less constant fear that she was going to get thrown into another universe, because someone up there hated her.

"Unless you don't feel like taking a break from your job search?" she asked, cracking a smile.

"See? No way it can go wrong."

After a pause, he replied. "I'm taking any excuse to avoid the job search." There was another moment where it seemed he had just remembered a detail after contemplating possibilities. "Come on." With this, Tommy got ready to walk over and cross the street and stood only to wait for the signal to give them the green light, looking back at Rikki.

Pretty ironic, yeah, but he was supposed to be on 'perfectly normal kid' mode. The little run over in her direction earlier had been a small exception. "Did Eli show you around yet?"

Rikki followed him curiously. "Do I get a clue, or is where we're going a surprise?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. As they walked she made sure to look around, memorizing landmarks. Which was probably fairly pointless, as the landscape of the city got stomped flat on what seemed like a weekly basis, but Rikki really hated being lost.

"Not really. We went on a couple of runs when I was staying with you guys, but that was closer to your place," Rikki shrugged. "I haven't seen much of this part of town."

"Well, it's not really that exciting or anything." He gestured when he placed emphasis on the word, pursing his lips briefly. "I found it once when I was taking a run around the city."

Then he tilted his hand, lifting his hand. "Checking this place out isn't so bad. Unless you run into the usual dickheads trying to start something." He looked to the side, spotting his own references. Just because he could get around a lot didn't necessarily mean he was exceptional at memorizing directions.
