Howl was happy that Sophie was here but he couldn't let on just how happy. She was already in a foul mood-- it didn't seem like any of his usual pleasantries would cheer her up. Sophie was not like other woman. He couldn't just write her poetry or send her meaningless gifts. No, Sophie was different and special. In fact, when they were together, they mostly argued (well-- Sophie argued and he half assedly fought back) and strangers would think their strong personalities would clash. And they did clash, but in the best ways.
He could find Sophie anywhere on this planet, magic or not. Something about her just drew him in, made him want to get closer. After all, she was the woman who had finally pinned down the Great Wizard Howl. It had something to do with the fact that he now had a heart but even when he didn't, his concern for her was out of the ordinary. For someone who thought she was so plain, Sophie could not be any more wrong. There was nothing plain about her-- except for maybe those drag gray dresses she loved to wear.
Flowers, Howl thought. Sophie loved flowers. He would bring her some in an attempt to cheer her up and calm her down.
