Weeks. She had been moving for weeks, creating, stalking, and no closer to a meal. The hunger had begun to overwhelm, was gnawing at her stomach and the edges of her mind. It was becoming harder and harder to convince these humans that she was one of them. Was a meal so much to ask?
The sounds of children at play, the bright sparkle of their laughter, caught her attention. She turned her head, button eyes seeking.
A park. How excellent. The perfect place to find her next meal.
She drifted closer to it, picking out one voice amongst the many. A boy, curly haired and blue-eyed. Jeffrey Morgan. Nine years old, lived in an apartment, desperately wanted to own a big dog. Bullied at school. No siblings.
Her appearance changed as she approached, hair lengthening, lightening in color. Only her eyes remained the same. After a moment, a golden retriever puppy appeared at her side. Its paws were huge, hinting that it would grow quite large.
"Jeff," she called. "Jeff, it's time to go home!"
